So now, in addition to seeing Carter and the evil merchant fight, you can hear it, too, as well the distant breakers and the faraway mind shattering drone of the Great Black Rock. There are a few outlying sounds, such as Shantak cries, that are going to be especially tricky. Also, there are a few sounds that require a bit of tweaking ("Oh, those insects are way too loud" and "how come I can't hear the Sarkomand ambience?"). Our next step is putting in the music tracks, as fast as our busy composer can feed 'em to us. The music is extremely cool, by the way, beautiful and weird and haunting -- perfect! Speaking of our most excellent composer, please visit her website: http://www.landoftheblind.com/ and click on the Calendar tab. If she's performing anywhere near you, please, please, please go and watch! Chances are, you'll catch a sneak preview of her Dream-Quest work, as well as lots of extraordinary (and I mean that in the truest sense) work of her own. Guess what today is? Did you feel a shadow cross the sky at any point? On this day in 1890 was born Howard Phillips Lovecraft, without whom we would probably still be making hundreds of animated stick figures. So, Happy Lovecraft's Birthday! Here's a cheery Lovecraft thought to keep you warm and cozy at night: "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." Words to live by, dreamers. We're bouncing Tiggers to see our feature listed at http://www.hplfilmfestival.com/schedule.htm and are looking forward to having a great time that weekend. If you can make it at all, by all means, we hope to see you there. Not sure what the exact schedule will be, but we'll keep you posted, to be sure, as it gets closer, closer, closer... Hey, if you want to help, here's a free and easy thing to do: Point your friends to our website: http://www.petting-zoo.org/Movies_Dreamquest.html Encourage them to join the mailing list. If you know anyone who works in the media, point THEM to the website, too. This is simply too cool a project to keep under wraps, y'know? Oh by the way, if you ever feel like checking out a book that has a curiously Lovecraftian tone to it and leaves you feeling very cosmically small, might I recommend "The Philosopher's Stone" by Colin Wilson. Wow. Our last bit of news is that in about 72 hours, we'll be off to Burning Man. Wish us luck in the hot Nevada desert. I'm sure we'll return with enough stories to let us through the gates of Thran for the rest of our days! Okay, it wasn't a short note after all. Sorry about that. I just get so darn chatty when it comes to the movie! Have fun! Dream! Live! Cheers, Edward Martin III The Dream-Quest of Unknown
