July 19: Monsterfest Attracts Barker

From CreatureCorner.com:

~Someone in the programming department at AMC needs an education in horror.

That’s a rather negative thing to say about a channel who consistently delivers the horror goods for six days each and every Halloween. While I like to pride myself in developing my own macabre movie watching slate during October, I always have AMC’s MonsterFest turned on if nothing’s spinning in the ol’ DVD player. But this year…it just looks bleak. MonsterFest will still go on for six days as it always does (October 26-31). It’ll feature a Halloween marathon (2 – 5 on Halloween day). And I’m sure they won’t discount the classics (Frankenstein, Dracula, etc.) but the modern film line-up that kicks off this event is nothing shy of miserable.

If the film Pinata: Survival Island means anything to you, I’m sorry. Have you gotten through recovery from that experience? I’m just coming out of the woods, but the memories of that wretched piece of crap are clinging onto my brain cells with dear life.

Apparently it didn’t affect the programmers at AMC a great deal because it’s making its television debut on October 26th at 10 pm. Yep, that killer-pinata romp starring Jaime Pressly and Nicholas Brendon is going to pave the way for a festival of classics that are more entertaining in a single frame than Pinata is in its grueling hour and a half running time. Preceding the film, on the same night, is a pair of duds: An American Werewolf in Paris (6 pm) and Alien: Resurrection (8 pm). Sound enticing to you? Well, young lad, have fun. No one’s stopping you. Me? I’ll wait for the black & whites to air.

While the rest of the festival schedule is still being kept in the dark, a little light has been shed on who the celebrity horror guest will be this year.

Clive Barker is going to host AMC’s original special Short Screamers. This is their second year running the program which features one-minute horror shorts from aspiring shock masters. If you recall, good ol’ John Carpenter hosted last year. Now, that horror stud-master behind Hellraiser will take the reins.

We’re still some ways off until Halloween, so let’s cross our fingers in the meantime and hope that AMC’s MonsterFest draws together some quality fright films.~

July 17: Evil Bobbles...

From Creature-Corner.com:

As you may know if you follow such things, the San Diego Comic Con began yesterday and is currently in fully swing. Aside from people that are there to discuss comics like the title implies (which seem to be getting fewer and fewer every year), there are tons of movie studios and toy makers on hand for attendees to drool over.

Our favorite, NECA, is of course one of 'em, and they've unveiled some pretty sweet looking new stuff for the 'Hellraiser' line so far. Figures has up some great pics of the Pinhead Head Knocker, which just looks plain dangerous, very detailed images of the Pillar of Souls, and some great close-ups of the new line of figures.

Check 'em all out right here, and make sure you look at the 'Ghostbusters' stuff NECA has on it's way. Figures only has pictures right now with no descriptions, so I'm not sure what they are exactly, but the look amazing.

July 12: More Series 2 Images

From Bloody-Disgusting.com:

After a very successfull series one, series two is already upon us, with an even better array of figures than before! Stick your mouse right here to check out some awesome pictures of the Surgeon sculpture in progress, very cool indeed!

July 12: Hellraiser: More Money

From CreatureCorner.com:

Thanks to the fine folks over at NECA, I finally have a reason to look forward to more 'Hellraiser' films: New toys!

Yes, the 'Hellraiser' toys have been the main focus for the last few months, but let's not forget that Dimension has plunked more barely-earned money into the franchise with not one but TWO new sequels, 'Hellraiser: Deader' and 'Hellraiser: Hellworld'. Castel Films of Romania (whose logo looks frighteningly similar to Full Moon's) were behind both the sequels, and their official site is now loaded with very detailed plot descriptions and over 60 new images. Damn.

First up, 'Hellraiser: Deader'. Ya know, without a number at the end, I'm starting to get confused as to which one is which...okay, this is the seventh movie in the franchise, and this one stars Kari ('Eight Legged Freaks') Wuhrer as a reporter that discovers a video tape of ritual murders behind done by a group calling themselves the Deaders. Ugh. She tracks the origin of the tape to Romania, confronts the group, and I'm sure Pinhead will show up at the end for a barely understood reason like he has in the last two films.

Onwards to 'Hellraiser: Hellworld'. In this movie, 'Hellraiser' is an actual film (hey....there's an original approach, huh?), and a group of kids are obsessed with a game based on it called 'Hellworld'. They are all invited to a party being held by Lance Henrikson's character, who is actually just trying to enact revenge on the people he sees as responsible for killing his boy. Do do so he brings for the spirit of Pumpkinh...er, Pinhead to punish the wrongdoers.

So, basically, two more crappy sequels from Dimension. Thanks, guys.

Check out the site for Castel Films for the fully detailed, somewhat spoiler-y descriptions that make no allusion whatsoever to the fact that both these movies are going to suck.

July 10: Doug Bradley, in the flesh!

If any fans are interested, just found out Doug Bradley is to make an appearance at Kulture Shock store (10-12 St Benedicts Street) in Norwich, UK on 27th July.

July 8: Finished Images of Series 2 Figures

From Bloody-Disgusting.com:

How cool are these? I only wish I had the room for series two of NECA's Hellraiser toyline. The final line-up consists of a new Pinhead variant, Butterball, Barbie Cenobite, Angelique, Skinless Julia and The Surgeon. Each figure comes with a piece to the Pillar Of Souls, so much like the Lament Configuration with the series 1 figures...

July 4: New 'Hellraiser' Series 2 Image

From Creature-Corner.com:

As you may have seen on other sites in the past day or so, NECA will be debuting Series 2 of the 'Hellraiser' toys, full of Cenobite goodness at the Comic Con. The series will include a second version of Pinhead (from 'Hellbound', with a new expression, pose, accesories, and revised paint details!), Butterball, Skinless Julia, Angelique, Barbie & Surgeon. Each figure will be 7" as was the first line, and they will all come with a piece of the Pillar of Souls seen in 'Hellraiser III'. When put together the pillar will stand over 9" tall. Sweet!

And as an added bonus, NECA's official site for all things 'Hellraiser' has posted some more concept art seen above, this time of the Butterball figure. Too damn kick ass.

From Bloody-Disgusting.com:

Hellraiser Online writes, "Boy oh boy, are we just ever too nice to you.
We're still not nice enough to show you something in 3d, though technically
it would have to be in front of you to be 3d, but I think you know what I
mean. Anyhow, this is the Hellraiser website, we shouldn't be so nice." They
are referring to a design image of the new Butterball figure, which is
depicted inside!

July 3: 'Hellraiser' Series 2 Secrets Revealed?

Celluloid Shockers had some interesting news they found over on the Spawn Messageboards, "Dragonkings from the Spawn messageboard reports that Tomarts Action Figure Digest mentions 4 of the 6 figures coming is series 2. They are: Butterball (from Hellraiser), Skinless Julia (from Hellraiser 2), Barbie (from Hellraiser 3) and Angelique (from Hellraiser Bloodline).
