September 15: DEATH IN LOVE

Contributing Sources: Sacred Fools

It seems like we go through little bursts of Clive Barker news, when all his film projects are suddenly revitalized for a while before falling back into their own private development hell. But there is one aspect of Barker's numerous talents that doesn't worry about being in "turnaround" or suffering through multiple "rewrites"...his plays.

Barker's written many plays over his long career, but very few theater companies have had the balls to actually put them on. Sacred Fools of Los Angeles, California, is one group with the required ball girth to bring Barker's words to life, and like they did last year with Crazyface (which we reported on here way back when), so shall they return again with Frankensten In Love or The Life of Death.

Frankenstein In Love is described as "an offbeat and disturbing tale of deformed freaks, medical experiments, bloody revolution... and love, sweet love". Other than that, you just have to know Clive's mentality, couple that with the title, and I think you an figure out why they aren't admitting children for this play.

It starts up on September 24th and runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout September and October. As an added bonus they've tacked on the "Thriller/ Suspense/ Drama/ Romantic Comedy/ Rock'n'Roll/ Porn Story With a Heart!", Frankenstein, Vicki as their late night show.

More info on both plays, as well as tickets and merchandise, is available at their official site, located right...about...here.

September 15: A NEW WAY TO CHATTER

From Creature-corner.com:

Oh, to be a part of the club...

The Hellraiser Collector's Club, that is. What you see to the right is the first shot of their newest Collector's Club exclusive, a second sculpt of the Chatterer featured in Series One. As you can see the face is different, and a lot more detailed.

But since it's an exclusive to said club, the only way you're going to be able to have it on your shelf is by clicking here and joining up. If NECA keeps this up, it's going to be next to impossible for me to not slap down the membership fee, just so I can make sure my collection is complete.

Also if you click here, you'll be able to see some different views of the beast, as well as an early sculpt of the twins joined at the head from Hellraiser: Bloodline. Probably one of my favorite cenobites, I hope he's in the next series....

Getting geared up for series two of the awesome Hellraiser figures NECA has so kindly brought to you that others couldn't? If so, head on over to the official site to check out the finished product packaged and ready to go! The figures are set to hit stores within the next month.

September 4: Clive to join the Mania's Masters

Santa Monica's Mania Fest 2003 ( September 18-21) has just added a "Masters of Horror" panel to the schedule! The panel (to be moderated by Cinescape's editor in chief Anthony C. Ferrante) will include Tobe Hooper, Clive Barker, Wes Craven, Eli Roth (Cabin Fever), George Romero, and Stuart Gordon. The panel will be held on the 20th.

They will also be showing Hellraiser, Night of the Living Dead, Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween, The Hills Have Eyes, and Friday the 13th. There will be some Q&A sessions after some of the screenings.

For more information on the Fest, click here.

September 1: Massive film updates!

I've made several updates to the upcoming films page (Films on the Horizon)!

September 1: It's A Barker News Bonanza!

What it is with Clive Barker these days, anyway? News surrounding this guy either comes down the new pipeline in drips and drops and at other times it's as if someone's opened the floodgates.

Today's one of those "heavy flow" kinda days.

In a mini-exclusive, Creature-Corner has learned that Barker and producer Jorge Saralegui have paired up to form an independent production company whose focus will fall entirely on genre products. The duo haven't chosen a name as of yet for the company. Saralegui's credits include Red Planet, Queen of the Damned, and The Time Machine. Man, that's one grim resume. Maybe with Barker's creative talent and Jorge's money-attracting abilities some good will come of this partnership.

On the non-exclusive tip, Clive Barker's official website has amassed a wealth of updated info regarding some projects the man currently has cooking in the fire.

Apparently Clive's just turned in a script adaptation of his Books of Blood short story Midnight Meat Train and promises that'll it will be every bit as gruesome as his original tale. That script is now currently in the hands of an unnamed independent production company (hmm). If you recall, Candyman director Bernard Rose was going to turn Midnight Meat Train into a Candyman sequel, but that never jived. And the story was also adapted for Bill Condon's Books of Blood abandoned anthology film too.

Writers Drew McWeeney and Scott Swan have handed over their adaptation of Dread, a project in which Fox and Barker's own Seraphim Films are developing. And in other adaptation news, it seems Warner Bros. and Barker are flirting around with the idea of bringing a well known writer to come in and do a "final draft" of Damnation Game. Nothing's locked in though and Barker's not stating who the write is, but we have our suspicions.

Also, paranormal investigator Scott Ba...I mean, Harry D'Amour may see another silver screen adventure before an actual television series. Hell, why they didn't grab Backula for a D'Amour show before he went off to do the awful Enterprise is beyond me.

There's a helluva lot more updates to check out at the site including news on the Tortured Souls film for Universal; the "whatever happened to that project?" Barker concept called Bloody Mary; and the long-rumored Jonathan Davis/Barker DVD we did a write-up on so long ago.
