Enter the Dagon
Enter the Dagon (2004)

How do you successfully insure that your Lovecraft adaptation/spoof isn't a desecration of the Old Gent's work? By having his spirit possess a Shaman and strangle the director in the fourth act! This film takes the frustration all Lovecraft purists have with the way Hollywood has treated his work and taken it to the limit: what if The Shadow Over Innsmouth were

adapted as a kung-fu action film? This promising premise is certainly fulfilled, with lots of cheesy fight scenes, bone-crunching sound effects, and nods towards both Bruce Lee and Stuart Gordon. While it could certainly be trimmed in places, the film is enjoyable throughout. Any film featuring Deep Ones chasing bikini babes across a beach deserves an award. Period. Spoofs of other genre films are nicely tucked into Enter the Dagon (and the "making-of" feature for that matter), including a Star Wars reference for the hardcore geek exclusively. Enter the Dagon fills a niche few knew even existed. I look forward to future work from this talented, funny crew.
