The Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn

The Terror Continues…

Following the release of The Evil Dead, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell joined forces with Rob Tapert and Scott Spiegel to bring the continuing adventures of Ash in The Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn. The story opens with Ash and Linda driving the “Classic” Oldsmobile to the cabin (for legal reasons, Scotty and Shelly were cut and a new actress brought in for Linda), Ash fills us in about the spirits taking over Linda and Professor Knowbie’s translations. Ash manages to hack up his girlfriend and lose his hand before being joined by Knowbie’s daughter, Annie (Sarah Berry), his assistant, Ed (Richard Domeier), and local hillbillies, Jake (Danny Hicks) and Bobbie Joe (Kassie Wesley). The fun really begins when Sam Raimi’s brother, Ted, makes his first appearance and is accepted into the Screen Actor’s Guild. The plot of Dead by Dawn doesn’t give us anymore of an insight as to what the dead-ites are looking for or want, but it still carries on the campy fun atmosphere the first movie had with a slightly bigger budget. All in all, The Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn is a great follow up to The Evil Dead and perhaps the best in the trilogy as it combines horror and slapstick into one.
