Graveyard ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Graveyard is so clearly influenced by "Clerks" that it is hardly worth mentioning, except to say that Graveyard is about ten times more entertaining. In it's 20 minute running time not too much actually happens, and most of what does happen is (cleverly) off camera. Suffice it to say a paperback copy of the Necronomicon and a large print version of the Book of Eibon are involved in a 24-hour bookstore owner's desire to save a few pennies. The real standout in the film is Toren
Atkinson playing one of the bookstore's employees. So no one can accuse
me of nepotism let me just say I have known Toren (via the internet)
for almost six years and credit him with pushing me to make my first
film. But I had no idea he could act! He gets the least character
development of anyone in the film (especially without the two deleted
scenes) and yet remains the most memorable. The other standout is
the make-up. It's a first-rate job which adds considerably to the
film. So, while the film is light on the Lovecraft, it delivers with
the witty dialogue and sight gags. The film was never intended to
be an homage to HPL, so I appreciate that it's writer took the time
to drop a few references, it adds a nice bit of back story to a very
funny film. Crawling Chaos Pictures H.P. Lovecraft's Nyarlathotep Propping Up the Mythos |
