Welcome to Unfilmable.com's "Hellboy" news page. While Hellboy is not a Lovecraft adaptation, it has been described as very Lovecraftian by many of it's fans. Some of the early character sketches and production artwork have a strong Lovecraftian feel to them. Director Guillermo Del Toro is set to direct the straight Lovecraft adaptation "At the Mountains of Madness" after it's release. Please submit news and links here. Past news is archived below. From ComicMonster.com, countingdown.com: Very few comic creators ever get to see their ideas come to life. Hellboy creator Mike Mignola got to see his baby alive and kicking. He only had to travel halfway round the world to see it. With a 'Hellboy' film headed to the big screen on April 2, Mignola took Wizard inside his own private 'hell' as the movie was shot in Prague. Mignola kept a personal diary for Wizard, complete with photos from the set, and as part of the massive movie event in Wizard #150 (on sale Feb. 25), you'll get a chance to read Mignola;s diary. Get up close and personal as Mignola rubs elbows with actors Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Doug Jones (Abe Sapien), Selma Blair (Liz Sherman), Rupert Myers (Agent Myers) and director Guillermo del Toro ('Blade 2') and shares his private thoughts about seeing his monster-stomping demon of good walk, talk and wreck. Here's a taste: "After more than five years of talking about it, I will finally get to see Ron [Perlman] as Hellboy," writes Mignola. "Ron is perfect as Hellboy, as del Toro and I aways knew he would be. He seems so natural, the way he talks, the way he moves and the way he smokes a cigar. It's very easy to forget he's in four hours worth of makeup. His big stone hand and tail work so well you forget they're operated by radio control." For more of Mignola's diary, pick up Wizard #150, available in comic stores Wednesday, Feb. 25. Source: LatinoReview (Thanks to http://www.countingdown.com/) From countingdown.com: Following in the footsteps of another RSC alumnus, Sir Ian McKellen, Hurt is now making a bid for the sort of universal acclaim enjoyed by his fellow actor in the trilogy The Lord of the Rings. Typically of Hurt, however, it's in Guillermo Del Toro's adaptation of Mike Mignola's cult comic Hellboy. One of the darkest of a new breed of comic-book heroes, Hellboy (played by Ron Perlman) is the world's premiere occult detective; Hurt plays his 'surrogate father', Professor Bruttenholm. "It would be odd to imagine any part that's not a risk," he says. "Someone once complimented me on what a brave actor I was, and I remember talking to a friend of mine." He said, "You've got to realise, in Hollywood, if you brush your hair backwards that's considered brave." Like his latest incarnation, Alan Clark, Hurt may be too much of a loose cannon to achieve the success of McKellen in the system. But, like that possible autobiography of his, the thought of him raising hell in Hollywood is a mouth-watering one. Hit the link below for the full article! The result was a flood of inquiries to me. Will it be the poster for the films release? Will it be available to us? Where and when can I get one? And the rumors! All exciting but I must say that I have no answers. It is still up in the air as to what, when and where or even if it will ever happen. When I know I will surely inform everyone right here on my welcome page. If you have found this exciting let me clue you into another secret. This image is only a work in progress poster. While I cannot show you the finished art yet I can say it is far more powerful, beautiful and compelling than this temporary version. Limited Edition Black Shirt 'Hellboy' Beanie Direct from the Hellboy motion picture, set to release everywhere on April 2, 2004, this exclusive beanie shows Hellboy in his "off-duty" outfit, which means his long jacket is gone, revealing his sleeveless black t-shirt. Making such tough, hard looking characters into soft and cute beanie versions was an unnatural yet interesting evolution. "Hellboy is an interesting character with a very cool look," says Andy Livingston, Marketing & Sales Coordinator for DST, "and turning him into a beanie only serves to enhance his appearance. We're very happy to be working with Tower Records to get this neat collectible into the hands of Hellboy fans." This version of the Hellboy beanie shows off the intricate designs the character has on his right arm, as well as revealing more of his stone fist. Hit the link below for more! (Thanks to http://www.superherohype.com/) Source: About.com, Comics Continuum About.com caught up with Hellboy star Ron Perlman at the "50 First Dates" and chatted with him about the April 2 release. Here's a clip... How does a comic book movie compete with all the others out there? Everything is about execution. First you have to have a decent script. The more dimensional the script is, the more dynamic it has, the better chance you have of making a great film. And then you have a filmmaker like Guillermo del Toro who is, I truly believe, in a class by himself. The deck is stacked in our favor, I believe. Was there a different tone working with del Toro than on Blade 2? No. Working with Guillermo has been so seamlessly easy from the moment we first met. Hellboy was our third one together and we're just great friends, we really understand each other and there's a great shorthand between us, and a lot of good humor on the set. Check out the full article at the link above. In related news, Comics Continuum reports that Inkworks will release 72 move trading cards for the film on March 24. (Thanks to http://www.superherohype.com/) According to superherohype.com, Sci Fi Wire has reported that Ron Perlman broke a rib on the Hellboy set... Ron Perlman, who plays the title role in the upcoming comic adaptation Hellboy, told SCI FI Wire that he injured himself performing one of the film's elaborate stunts. "I broke a rib jumping onto a train that was coming towards me," Perlman said in an interview. "It was going about 45 [mph]." Perlman admitted that he was a bit surprised that the movie's stunt coordinators allowed him to do the gag himself. "They took a shot," Perlman joked. Seriously, Perlman said, he's always open to doing stunt work. "I do [stunts whenever] somebody says, 'This is safe, Ron, I think you can do this.'" Hit the link above for the full interview!
