Welcome to Unfilmable.com's "Hellboy" news page. While Hellboy is not a Lovecraft adaptation, it has been described as very Lovecraftian by many of it's fans. Some of the early character sketches and production artwork have a strong Lovecraftian feel to them. Director Guillermo Del Toro is set to direct the straight Lovecraft adaptation "At the Mountains of Madness" after it's release.

January 30: Another 'Hellboy' Update from Guillermo del Toro

Guillermo del Toro has put another update on the official Hellsite message boards, this time from ADR (Automatic Dialogue Replacement) in London - here's the rundown of all the latest Hellboy news:

-The production is in the last quarter of visual effects delivery, with all miniature work finished, and three big sequences to fill in with the missing digital shots.

-Marco Beltrami will begin recording the final score in a couple weeks, and the sound mix will begin at Skywalker Ranch this month. The first preview screenings should begin by late March.

-There are plans to distribute a free 'Hellboy' promotional DVD through Best Buy in the near future.

-A new series of 'Hellboy' trailers, one full-length as well as a series of quick 60 second spots, are being currently being finalized. Instead of airing a 30 spot during the Superbowl, that money will now be redirected towards beginning the cable TV campaign earlier than previously expected.

-Giant theater standees are completed and will begin appearing in movie theaters soon. The poster with art by Drew Struzan will no longer be the film's final theatrical one-sheet design, but will still be used as an advertising image and will be sold in comic book and specialty stores, as well as being available signed by Struzan through Hellsite soon.

-Current plans are to release a 2-disk DVD set in August, with a special edition 3-disk set ready in time for Christmas. Sideshow Collectibles will likely release a special 3-disk DVD and bust set around that time.

-Expect extensive magazine coverage to begin soon, and the 'Art of Hellboy' movie book is completed and in its final design stages. Del Toro specifically referred to it as a "beautiful and lust-inducing object."

January 10: Hellboy Report From Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors

Source: Andrew S, superherohype.com

'Andrew S' wrote superherohype.com with the first update from Fangoria's Weekend of Horror taking place at the Meadowlands Sheraton Hotel in East Rutherford, New Jersey...

Hey, I just got back from the Fangoria/Chiller Theater: Weekend of Horror and all you can see were posters for the new Hellboy Motion Picture. I happened to pick up the poster as well as numerous other goodies from most of the shops. We went into the screening room to check out the trailers, and guess what they played first... HELLBOY!! The crowd applauded it and gave the film a good vibe with their feedback. Selma Blair and Ron Perlman will be on hand tomorrow (Saturday) to take questions and and sign stuff for the kiddies.

Another note, Andrew Brynarski (Leatherface/ Chip Shreck - Batman Returns) was on hand as well. I asked him how it was to work with Burton and the other heavyweights on the set, he said it was an amazing experience but egos got in the way. He also mentioned something Tim Burton told him, "Never censor your thoughts." It by far is the best words of wisdom I've heard in my life. He also expressed interest in the new film and claims to be interested in where they take it.
