Welcome to Unfilmable.com's "Hellboy" news page. While Hellboy is not a Lovecraft adaptation, it has been described as very Lovecraftian by many of it's fans. Some of the early character sketches and production artwork have a strong Lovecraftian feel to them. Director Guillermo Del Toro is set to direct the straight Lovecraft adaptation "At the Mountains of Madness" after it's release. Please submit news and links here. Past news is archived below. I ran into Hellboy creator Mike Mignola today at the Dark Horse booth (which had some previously seen Hellboy maquettes on display, as well as HB's gun 'The Samaritan'), and while he was a bit jetlagged as he had just recently returned from the Prague set, he still took the time to answer some quick questions while he signed some fans' new Hellboy movie trading cards. "I'm very happy. I'm just very happy, it looks great," Mignola said. "I got back two days ago, and I'm still on Czech time. But I was really pleased. I've seen bits and pieces [of the film]. I didn't want to see a chunk of it together, but I did see some of it projected and it was amazing." When asked about Doug Jones' work as Abe Sapien in the film, Mignola replied, "That stuff's great! The stuff of him underwater is amazing. I can't wait! And the scene they were shooting the last night I was there was amazing" it was a real emotional human sequence, and it was wild, it was great." While Mignola opted not to reveal the content of the scene to retain some secrecy, he was clearly very impressed with the work he had seen. Hopefully we will have a little more from Mignola over the next day or two (as well as a report on his presentation for the film on Saturday, along with the 2 new exclusive Hellboy posters). We'll keep you posted on all the latest Hell-developments here on CountingDown.com! (Thanks to http://www.countingdown.com/) July 17: Mike Mignola Talks Hellboy Movie Comics Continuum spoke to Mike Mignola about the upcoming Hellboy movie... Mignola returned from the Czech Republic this week and is in San Diego for Comic-Con International. He signed at the Dark Horse booth on Wednesday night and will be part of a Sony presentation on the film on Saturday. "It looks great. I saw a lot of the footage," Mignola told The Continuum. "And I was on set for three weeks, and it looks great. I'm very happy. They're done at the end of the month." It was recently announced that Hellboy would open next Memorial Day weekend. "It's a big one," Mignola said of the weekend. "The studio is very excited; they're very happy with what they've seen." (Thanks to http://www.superherohype.com/) From CountingDown.com: According to director Guillermo del Toro on the official Hellboy movie message boards, there will be no Hellboy trailer at this year's San Diego Comicon: San Diego will screen only the "Sizzle Reel" that was screened in Amsterdam and subsequently covered on AICN. Nothing major. Footage from the first quarter of the shoot mostly. But the GOOD and EVIL posters will be there along w/Master Mignola. Oh well - looks like we're going to have to wait until November for the first real footage! Source: Hellsite Message Boards (Thanks to http://www.countingdown.com/) From CountingDown.com: Although Beltrami might be best known for the thrill-ride type of music he composed for "Scream" and such action-suspense pictures as "Joy Ride" and "Mimic," he also has worked on quieter projects such as the Emmy-winning 1999 TV movie "Tuesdays with Morrie. My ideas are definitely varied and diverse in terms of style and genre," he said. "At some point, there's still a lot of other areas that I want to cover." But for now, he's staying in the sci-fi, action field. His next two projects are a werewolf picture and a comic book hero adaptation. The werewolf project, "Cursed," reunites Beltrami with "Scream" director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson. "Hellboy" stars Ron Perlman ("Beauty and the Beast") as a demon, conjured by the Nazis, who is seized by idealists and raised from infancy to fight against the dark side. Hit the link below for more! Source: UPI (Thanks to http://www.countingdown.com/) From CountingDown.com: Comics2Film/CBR News caught up with Dark Horse chief and "Hellboy" producer Mike Richardson who recently returned from the Prague set of the movie. The film, based on Mike Mignola's comic and written and directed by Guillermo del Toro wraps shooting this month. "' Hellboy' is looking spectacular," Richardson enthused. "We were moved to memorial day, which means the studio has huge faith in the project. Everybody's jazzed about that movie." Richardson also said that "Hellboy" has something that more recent comic adaptations are lacking. "It's so much fun. I didn't think 'The Hulk' was much fun. I didn't think 'Daredevil' was fun. I thought 'Spider-Man' was spectacularly fun and it's because [director Sam Raimi] so 'got it.' "That's the way Guillermo is with 'Hellboy.' He so 'gets it,'" the producer continued. "As Mike says, you never know what box office is gonna be on any movie, but it is impossible that anybody could have made a better 'Hellboy' movie. Guillermo and I agree." But will we get a trailer at this year's San Diego Comicon? Hit the link below... Source: Comics2Film (Thanks to http://www.countingdown.com/) With a mere three weeks left in the shoot, Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro has been at it again on the official Hellboy message boards, where he recently explained Spanish comic Santiago Segura's (Blade II) cameo: "Santiago and I are friends since 1992. I am a huge fan of his brilliant mind. He IS in HELLBOY. Actually he has a scene where he hits Hellboy. Mitico!!! How can SS hit the Big Red and not be killed????!!!!!! Wait and see..." More interestingly, he suggested that he would like to hold two fan screenings for those who participate on the official message board, one on each coast: "I was thinking of talking to the studio about doing 2 screenings (one in the West coast, one on the East coast) ONLY for those that were in this forums early enough and that reached a certain number of postings or whatever. Ron [Perlman], Mike [Mignola] and I would attend such soiree and shoot the chit." He encourages fans to start a poll to show their support for the idea.
