Welcome to Unfilmable.com's "Hellboy" news page. While Hellboy is not a Lovecraft adaptation, it has been described as very Lovecraftian by many of it's fans. Some of the early character sketches and production artwork have a strong Lovecraftian feel to them. Director Guillermo Del Toro is set to direct the straight Lovecraft adaptation "At the Mountains of Madness" after it's release.

September 25: Another lively pic from Hellboy

Contributing Sources: Counting Down

Remember, a few days back (see below), when I claimed the latest still from Hellboy was by far the coolest yet? I lied.

Chew on this one to the right (above). If you need any amount of evidence of whether writer/director Guillermo del Toro is going to deliver a faithful comic book adaptation, I think you only need to look at this photo. Torn straight from the pages of Mike Mignola's book, this pic is dead-on. Love it.

Hellboy slams into theaters in April of 2004. I'm sure from here on out we'll all be seeing a bevvy of incredible photos from the film, so I'll try to stop drooling all over the Corner.

September 23: HELLBOY BARES IT ALL

Contributing Sources: Cinescape & 'The NZ Natural'

Perhaps one of the best stills to come from Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Hellboy film has appeared on CHUD's very own message boards giving us a better look at big red himself...sans a shirt. This pic comes courtesy of Cinescape.

As the message board poster noted, this image has mostly likely been mirrored seeing as the hand Hellboy is holding up should bear the "Right Hand of Doom." And check out those tribal-like scars! A nice added touch that may or may not piss off the fans. They look damn fine to me, as does this pic! My favorite yet based on make-up detail.

Hellboy is slated for release April 2, 2004 and stars Ron Perlman as the titular comic book hero, Doug Jones, Selma Blair, and John Hurt.

September 11: Doug Jones on Hellboy's Villains

From Not Your Average Joe's interview with Doug Jones:

JL: Anything about the film you want to tell us that we don't know already?

DJ: Hmmmmm. Well, I don't want to give anything away, but I can tell you that all the bad-guy cast is AMAZING, giving such stylized, yet very believable performances. My good friend Brian Steele [the villain - Sammael] is the most brilliant physical performer, and he gave his all for this role. And wait 'til you see Ilsa, Grigory, and Kroenen! And I think we have the next heartthrob on our hands with Rupert Evans playing young Agent Meyers.

September 8: 'Hellboy' Loses Free Comic Book Day Poll to Spider-Man 2

According to Newsarama, Free Comic Book Day 2004 will be held on July 3rd, to coincide with the opening of Sony/Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The date was decided upon by polling conducted on the Diamond Comic Distributors Retailer Services Area, and voted on by more than 1,300 retailers. Timing FCBD to Hellboy's April release captured 138 (or 10.24%) of the votes, but ultimately lost to the idea of timing FCBD to the release of Spider-Man 2, which received 681 (or 50.56%) of the votes. September 6: Blair on Working with Abe Sapien

From Wizard Magazine's (via Countingdown.com) interview with Selma Blair about 'Hellboy':

Wizard: Describe the scene you've enjoyed filming the most so far.

Blair: There's this scene that I shot with Abe Sapien where he's giving me advice, and his character is just so beautiful to look at. They've just done such an amazing job with him, and when he's in the water tank, it's just unreal. It's everything I thought a fantasy scene would be. Even though I'm just sitting there talking to him, it's really dreamlike. It was so simple and beautiful, and Abe is an amazing character. That was my favorite scene so far.

September 2: More Hellboy news....

Guillermo Del Toro answered some questions recently on the "Hellboy" official site's message boards about the comic movie. The site itself should be undergoing a facelift in the next few weeks, whilst the first trailer should debut in October with "something BIG" (Ed. Note: best guess is probably "Kill Bill"). 'Abe Sapien' body actor Doug Jones is about to be tested for the voice of the creature, if he doesn't work out the next option is likely "Frasier" star David Hyde-Pierce.

September 1: Guillermo del Toro on the Hellboy Trailer, Site & More

'J.R. Hellboy' alerted Superherohype.com that director Guillermo del Toro has been answering quite a few questions on the official Hellboy Message Board. Here's a few...

This hasn't been mentioned yet, but it would be good to get people talking about it. Anyways on the offical hellboy movie message boards Del Toro just answered a ton of questions and said,

26) Do you have any control over the official movie site? Do you know when it will be updated, it seems they havn't updated it in a few months.

Agreed. We will start a lot of activity comes SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER. Get ready!!!

27) Any idea when the first Hellboy trailer(s) are due to hit theatres and which movies they will be attached to?

OCTOBER. To a BIG movie.

So it looks like in September were going to get a site update with possibly some new images and in october a trailer. Now what big movie comes out in october. He also mentioned that the posters given out at the con were rush jobs and not final product. And del toro always answers the questions on the board if you wanna get some people talking.

Another bit he revealed is that Doug Jones will give the voice of Abe Sapien a shot in the next two weeks. If that doesn't work out, he will likely turn to his first choice - "Frasier" star David Hyde-Pierce.

There's many more questions answered at the link above!
