~ While searching the internet for information on the film version of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" (effects by Harlow FX), I came across the following (this is the English translation of the French text): ~Harlow FX is an American company specialized in the special effects of make-up. On his site (http://www.harlowfx.net/), one can thus see photographs of his work on "A.I." of Spielberg, the series "Buffy"... or "The Shadow Over Innsmouth"! This project of film would interest Nicholas Cage, but the same topic having been adapted by Stuart Gordon in "Dagon", one waits to see whether celà will succeed... In any case, Harlow FX offers to us a beautiful gallery of Deep rather convincing: http://www.harlowfx.net/gallery/film/shadow/shadftpg.html.~ The information was taken
from the following website: H.P. Lovecraft & Le Mythe De Cthulhu
(which you can view here).
No source is given in regards to Nicholas Cage's interest. If anyone
has any information, drop me a line here. Lion Gate's release (VHS and DVD) of Beyond Re-Animator has been pushed back from September 23 to October 14. No reason was given. Synapse releases Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural on special edition DVD the same day. (Thanks to http://www.fangoria.com/) April 29: MGM to release
The Haunted Palace MGM is set to release "The Haunted Palace" as part of their August horror DVD lineup. It will be a Midnite Movie double feature with the Vincent Price film "The Tower of London". Price will be $14.95. (Thanks to http://www.gorezone.net/) April 29: The Fog on region 2 DVD Studio Canal will release
"The Fog" from John Carpenter on DVD next June 24th.
This will be release in France and will be Pal and region 2. The DVD
will include a booklet, 5.1 Dolby Dolby digital audio English and French
tracks, 2.35:1 aspect ratio enhanced for 16x9 tvs, the original audio

John Carpenter and Debra Hill (Thanks to http://www.gorezone.net/) April 28: The Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft Click here to check out the trailer for a flash animated film called "The Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft". It's based on the comic book "Lovecraft" created by Adam Byrne, Jeff Blitz, and Mac Carter. Click here to preview the comic book. There are also three painted covers that can be accessed here, here, and here. The homepage for Adam Byrne is here. (Thanks to shonokin) April 28: Jack Donner to appear at the Twisted Nightmare Weekend! Jack Donner, who appeared in Bryan Moore's incredible Lovecraft adaptation "Cool Air", will be appearing at The Twisted Nightmare Weekend. The event will take place on Sept. 19-21 at the Crowne Plaza Suites (Quaker Square) in Akron, Ohio. Mr. Donner's performance in Cool Air really stands out, and helps to make the film one of the best Lovecraft adaptations ever released. I most recently saw him in Sci-Fi channels new show, "Scare Tactics". Mr. Donner will appear next in Bryan Moore's adaptation of "Pickman's Model". Click here for more information on the Twisted Nightmare Weekend. April 28: Beyond Re-Animator in Ohio? Here is another review of Beyond Re-Animator form the 20th Annual Drexel 24 Hour Science Fiction Marathon (in Ohio). Wow, I missed this one..... Caution: Contains spoilers! Beyond Reanimator finally starts. THANK GOD The strange thing is the print has Spanish subtitles, which I keep reading The movies in English, but I keep reading the damn subtitles It starts off with a blonde chick you know is gonna get the Drew Barrymore-in-Scream treatment by a guy with no lower jaw right in front of her brother Howie. Turns out ol jawless is a corpse revived by Dr. Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs). Dr. West gets arrested and Howie finds Wests glow-in-the-dark reanimating juice laying in the street. The movie picks up thirteen years later with West in prison and a new doctor requesting his help in the infirmary Turns out Howie is all grows up now, and hes still pining away after Emily, his big sis Methinks Howie had, well, impure thoughts about his sister Wests been experimenting on rats, including Ratty, a rodent whos been adopted by Cabrera, one of the toughs on Wests cell block. Needless to say, Cabrera is not happy about his pet going missing, and he blames West. We then get introduced to the warden and a reporter named Laura (Elsa Pataky). Elsas a piece of ass, but her vocalizations wouldnt sound out of place in porno. Shes got all the acting chops of a porn star, too. The warden is a sadist, and we know thats going to come back to haunt our heroes in the very near future However, Laura is a total moron she conducts her interview with the warden while sitting in the electric chair. The first reanimation that the new partners work on is a religious maniac named Moses. Moses likes to eat human flesh, and hes terrified of the warden. However, West has something new up his sleeve this time. Hes isolated Nano-Plasmic Energy, which is the essential life spark that his previous reanimations have lacked. Well, one thing leads to another, and the warden kills Laura (blaming it on Moses). The intrepid reanimation brigade revives Laura and things quickly go straight to hell. Theyre forced to kill the warden, so they put his NPE into Laura to stabilize her, but instead turn her into a sadistic bitch. Then, West puts the NPE of Cabreras little pal Ratty into the Warden. To top things off, theres a bloody prison riot The prison nurse never wears a bra or blouse under her nurses uniform in a prison somehow, this seemed kind of stupid to me. It made for a convenient clothes-ripping scene later in the movie, but cmon. She works in a prison. And she walks around with her chest hanging out? Dont think so Obviously, none of the filmmakers ever watched Oz. Combs still has it, though. He eats scenery with all the mania and intensity youve come to expect from a true B-movie deity. Jason Barry, who plays the older Howard Phillips (get it, Howard Phillips Lovecraft???), desperately wants to be Devon Sawa. He doesnt quite succeed. Still, compared to Dame Elsa the Non-Wonder Actress, he comes off looking like Olivier. There are the obligatory references to Arkham and Miskatonic University to place the movie in the Lovecraft canon, a wee little bit of nudity (though the first bit is man ass, dammit), and plenty of goofiness. There are some truly fucked up moments in the movie, including a running gag with a piece of the male anatomy getting dragged every which way. They dont spare the fountains of blood or truckloads of gore And if you dont stay through the credits, you will miss one of the most twisted, hilarious things I have ever seen captured on film...... resin model that Christian Matzke stumbled across. The model was designed
by Sean Sansom (from Dimensional Designs), and lists for $110.00. (Thanks to Christian
Matzke) April 24: Madness chosen over The Creature It seems that Guillermo Del Toro will not be making that Creature from the Black Lagoon remake after all. He says that he would rather focus his attentions on a serious live-action WIND AND THE WILLOWS or AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS or his original scripts like THE LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS or MEPHISTO'S BRIDGE, and then there's always the possibility of another HELLBOY or that COFFIN film with James Cameron's company. Click here to read the entire article. (Thanks to http://aintitcoolnews.com/) April 23: Cathy Welch's
film "Pickman's Model" Filmmaker Rick Tillman (Pickman's Model) came across the following poster on eBay, and brought it to my attention. It is for an another adaptation of Pickman's Model directed by Cathy Welch. If anyone has any information
as to the availability of the film or contact information for the filmmaker
please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. April 23: New reviews up! I've added several new reviews to the REVIEWS page. Reviews have been added for the following films and TV shows: The Evil Dead (review by Meg Andros), Blue Ice (an adult film), Call of Cathulhu (a Real Ghostbusters episode), and Babylon Park: Frightspace (reviews by Christian Matzke). I would like to thank Christian and Meg for there reviews. If anyone else has a review of a Lovecraft film they would like to see added, send me an email here. You can access the REVIEWS page here. (Thanks to Christian Matzke and Meg Andros) April 23: Work progresses on "At the Mountains of Madness" Ain't it cool news has an article up on Guillermo Del Toro that includes info (with photos) on his upcoming film Hellboy and Creature from the Black Lagoon. It also mentions that "work is progressing very strongly on both WIND AND THE WILLOWS and AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS." It goes on to say, "Something that I love about HELLBOY is while there are a few very cool action scenes in the movie... more of the film is about atmosphere and characters... two things lost on most big summer films. You'll get to see the beginnings of those "Lovecraft" sets you've always dreamt of, that we'll see even bigger in AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. The ICE CAVE is nice, but wait till you guys see the Labrynth... that's gonna be amazing! Check out Hellsite.com for the latest from HELLBOY!" These films will shoot in 2004. They are currently searching for investors for these titles. Before "The 7th War" shoots, he will begin work on a horror movie inspired by Lovecraftian ideas called NAHAB. While reading "Ain't It Cool?" by Harry Knowles I came across this mention of Stuart Gordon's "Shadow over Innsmouth". Lovecraft novel about a gothic New England town descended from fish people. A man follows his missing bride to a strange island. Horror ensues. The designs are amazing... 11: If Chins Could Kill
review The new street date for Ivan Zuccon's "Unknown Beyond" is May 20th. (Thanks to Ivan Zuccon) April 10: Psycho Analysis: Herbert West Click here to check out an analysis of Re-Animator's mad scientist, Herbert West on the website Horror Asylum. (Thanks to http://www.horror-asylum.com/) April 10: Yet another Beyond Re-Animator review Somewhere in the twelve-year history of the Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema, its organizers realized that they could bolster attendance with a guilty pleasure or two. Maybe it was early on, with John Woo's Hard Boiled, or maybe it was last year, with the screening of the Japanese rock-and-roll zombie gorefest Wild Zero. In any event, the lesson seems to have stuck, as this year's (less pretentiously renamed) Philadelphia Film Festival seems to have devoted more screen time than ever to the guilty pleasure, offering up a plethora of Asian horror, vintage kung-fu, Harryhausen stop-motion, and most notable for your readers, Beyond Re-Animator..... Plus the second short film premiere in our new section SALVATION SHOWCASE: BLOOD directed by Philip Ilson. Blood is a dark disturbing and very disquieting shirt film about a girl who feeds off the blood of others to stop herself disintegrating. (Thanks to Ivan Zuccon and http://www.salvationfilms.co.uk/) April 8: The Shunned House release pushed back Darrin Ramage of Brain Damage Films has informed me that the release date of Ivan Zuccon's "The Shunned House" has been pushed back to September. It was a big hit in the fringe festival and now we're doing a full run. It's quite faithful to the original story, more faithful, at least, than the film was. If you're in the Seattle area, why don't you come see it? It's scary and funny and has a great original score. The theater is at 429 N. Boren in the Cascade neighborhood and you can call them at 206-382-4250 or at www.octheater.com. Tickets are $12 and it's running Thursday through Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 7 pm. 5: The Unfilmable Asylum! Click here
to join the Asylum! Bruce Campbell spoke with Sci Fi recently about the next 'Evil Dead' game, 'Fistful of Boomstick', in which he reprises his role (voice only, mind you) of the chainsaw- armed deadite destroyer that just can't get away from evil. "A Fistful of Broomstick is a way-cool game, and I'm not just saying that...They got complaints that the first game [Hail to the King] was pretty clunky or difficult or weird." He went on to say that 'Servicing Sara' co-star Matthew Perry told him he couldn't even finish it, voicing the bitch of a lot of horror fans the tried to get through it. Personally I loved 'Hail To The King', but if they insist on improving it, I won't try and stop 'em. (Thanks to http://www.creature-corner.com/) April 5: Azathoth (evil tape) and Kuhle Luft (Cool Air) Special thanks to Giuseppe Micciche for providing me with copies of the following amateur Lovecraft adaptations: Azathoth (evil tape) by Luigi Seviroli (Italy, 1990) and Kuhle Luft (Cool Air) by Mike Neun (1987). (Thanks to http://www.fangoria.com/) April 1: Another Beyond Re-Animator review There's another review for Beyond Re-Animator up on Ain't It Cool News. You can read it here. Caution: contains spoilers! (Thanks to http://www.aintitcool.com/) April 1: A bad THING The Sci Fi Cannel just keeps getting bigger and bigger as the years pass, thanks in no small part to their commitment to show horror films that you can't find anywhere else. A possible future hindrance on their part is that the president of Sci Fi doesn't like "shows about spaceships", but for now they're moving forward with more and more original horror-related material. Good, right? Mostly, yes. They're talking to Spielberg about doing another 18-hour epic miniseries ala 'Taken', which despite it's scale and the names attached didn't do nearly as well as I had thought. No script has been laid down, but I'm sure it'll have something to do with aliens. Now for the disturbing news. SCI Fi has plans for two smaller miniseries, one called '6 Days 'Til Sunday' about a man that foresees his death and has six days to stop it. The other? A four-hour remake of 'The Thing'. The second remake of the 1951 original 'The Thing From Another World', this one promises to stay closer to Carpenter's vision of the isolated scientists clashing with a shape changing creature from outer space. But...why? I understand 'Kong' being redone, it could use a good update, but does 'The Thing' need be to CGI-laden? Aside from the success of the video game, what made them think this was necessary? Damn this is uncomfortable news, I have to say. (Thanks to http://www.creature-corner.com/) |
