(Thanks
to http://www.hplfilmfestival.com/) From Ain't It Cool News: H.P. Lovecraft goes to 7th grade Sex Ed class. A puberty stricken boy freaks out in school upon discovering within the loins of all classmates lay sex organs of ancient gods. Cute funny film is a treat to horror fans... Visit the official website (North Lake Films) for stills, a trailer, a press kit and more. I hope to post a review of the film soon... (Thanks to http://www.northlakefilms.com/) Ever wonder what a Shoggoth
looks like? Or a Deep One? How about Yog-Sothoth? Click here
to find the latest addition to Unfilmable.com. The Lovecraft
Film Bestiary! On this work-in-progress, I will attempt to list
as many of Lovecraft's creatures as possible, and the films (with accompanying
images if available) that have attempted to capture them... According to Andrew Migliore, the street date for Vol. 2 of the H.P. Lovecraft Collection (Rough Magik) will be around Dec. 1st. The street date for Vol. 2 (Out of Mind) will be Feb. 2nd... Release dates subject to change. (Thanks to Gavin Smith)
(Thanks to Andrew French) Director Damon Packard's Dawn of an Evil Millennium (1988) begins with an onscreen quote "Life is a Hideous Thing" which is credited to H.P. Lovecraft (the quote is from "Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family"). Dawn of an Evil Millennium (1988) can be found on Other Cinema's DVD Experiments in Terror (2003). I believe it can also be found on some VHS and DVD copies of Packard's Reflections of Evil, and on some VHS and DVD copies of Packard's Untitled Star Wars Mockumentary. Dawn of an Evil Millennium isn't particularly Lovecraftian, though it is enjoyable. It's a twenty minute long "trailer" for an (unmade) eighteen-hour long epic film. It involves a psychokinetic demon (with crooked fangs and a bloody drool) who has been brought to earth by a sorceress, where he creates havoc by smashing people into bloody pulp by throwing them around with his psychic powers, and he drives around in a suped-up 1970 car. He's hunted by a pair of cops. (Thanks to Christopher
K. Philippo) For immediate release: Lurker Films is extremely pleased to announce that we will be releasing Out of Mind (shown on Bravo!) on DVD along with The Music of Erich Zann and The Outsider. Out of Mind offers the viewer a realistic encounter with Lovecraft and enters into his world. The film playfully winks at some of the themes characteristic of his HPL's work (the occult, cursed books, monstrous creatures, ancestry and the cosmos) and draws its inspiration from Lovecraft's personal correspondence and many of his stories, carrying the viewer through a labyrinth «beyond the wall of sleep.» We plan to release the DVD by January of 2005. This will make up Volume 3 of the H.P. Lovecraft Collection on DVD. (Thanks to Andrew Migliore) For immediate release: We are proud to announce that we will be releasing Rough Magik, a BBC pilot created by Stephen Parsons starring Paul Darrow of Blake's 7 fame. If you like the idea behind Delta Green you'll love this film. The Night Scholars, a clandestine organization setup to monitor the ancient cult of Cthulhu come to a single, incontrovertible, conclusion after compiling an enormous database of arcane information: the Sleeping God is waking. Diana Armitage, with the help of her Home Office liaison, the mysterious Mr. Moon (Paul Darrow), launch an aggressive campaign against the Dreamers. This operation designated the Rough Magik initiative is successful but they trod on the toes of some powerful people, amidst accusations of financial impropriety and possible treason, and the Night Scholars were disbanded. Now years later, the old magic is returning, the Sleeping God is rising, and there are more Dreamers than Mr. Moon can handle as he struggles to rebuild the Night Scholars before its too late. The DVD will also include Bob Fugger's Terrible Old Man and From Beyond. This will make up Volume 2 of the H.P. Lovecraft Collection on DVD. (Thanks to Andrew Migliore) ![]() ...click to enlarge... Directors Thomas Maurer and Barrett Leigh have provided Unfilmable.com with some exclusive images from their upcoming adaptation of "Beyond the Wall of Sleep"! According to Thom and Barrett, the
film is very close to completion, and a brand new website will be
launched soon. A new trailer is also in the works, but until it appears,
here are some images from the film to whet
your appetite! August 20: Ivan Zuccon's Colour from the Dark suspended Ivan Zuccon has informed me that production on his upcoming Lovecraft film; Colour from the Dark has been suspended until further notice Ivan has asked that the official website (hosted by Unfilmable.com) be taken down until budget issues have been resolved. He hopes to resume production in the spring. More as it becomes available. (Thanks to Ivan Zuccon) August 19: New Edger Allan Poe film According to fangoria.com, director Curtis (Night Tide, Ruby) Harrington is preparing a film based on one of Edger Allan Poe's lesser know tales called, The Man of the Crowd. It's the story of a man who decides to follow a complete stranger and comes to realize that the person he's tracking is insane (it will also incorporate themes from the author's "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar" and "William Wilson"). The film will be shot in East Los Angeles, and according to the director; "I'll use parts of the town that you don't ordinarily see. There are certain areas you don't get to see on the screen, ever." Gary Graver (cinematographer) will lens the project, and casting will begin shortly (Barbara Steele may play a small role). (Thanks to http://www.fangoria.com/) August 18: Night Gallery on DVD Universal Pictures is releasing Night Gallery Season 1 on DVD for the first time! Rod Serling hosts over 20 episodes, featuring the original pilot movies and every episode from first season (approximately eight hours). The first season includes episodes adapted from stories by H. P. Lovecraft! The scheduled release date is Aug. 24. Please note: This information comes from reallyscary.com. I cannot find any reference that the Lovecraft episodes came from season one. I believe Pickman's Model, Cool Air and Professor Peabody's Last Lecture came from the second season. If anyone can verify this I would appreciate it... (Thanks to http://www.reallyscary.com/) August 19: Hellboy 3-disc DVD specs Fangoria.com has the complete details for the 3-DVD release of Hellboy (which will be released October 19). Among other things, it contains the Director's Cut of the film (with over 13 minutes of re-edited and extended footage added), and the extras, which can be seen by clicking here! (Thanks to http://www.fangoria.com/) After several false starts
and falsely announced street dates, it looks as though LEO Films is
a little closer to releasing Ivan Zuccon's Unknown Beyond on
DVD. The following image and synopsis can be found on their home page.
No release date or DVD features are mentioned, however... Two hundred million years ago, the Ancient Ones colonized the Earth; they created the human race and enslaved it. Their ancient knowledge was contained in a sacred text called the Necronomicon and through its power it was possible to open wide the gates to the Unknown Beyond. Now, centuries later, the human race has rebelled and a war lasting millennia has driven man to the bowels of the Earth. (Thanks to The

Lovecraft, RIGHT NOW is the best time to shoot that movie, or edit that footage, or otherwise assemble it and send it to the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival: http://www.hplfilmfestival.com/homeflash.htm Although the deadline has passed, two factors play in your favor. First, I've just found out that there is a hole in the schedule that a late-yet-germane entry would fill handily! Second, this is the last year where there will be NO entry fees for this film festival. The only thing to keep in mind is that the work must be adapted from or clearly inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft. Go to the website and sift through the archives for some ideas of movies that have been accepted in the past. This hole will not be long-lived, probably expiring on or around September 1, so NOW IS THE TIME. And, of course, please pass this note along to any filmmaking groups to which you might belong. The more the merrier! Cheers, Edward (Thanks to Edward Martin

The festival will include a performance piece, film viewing, the awards ceremony, and a musical guest. Fans will have the opportunity to chat with the filmmakers in a separate room throughout the course of the event. I started this festival to bring new films to the fans, says Kevin deVil, founder of Horror Dance Film Festival and President of deVil Films. and also to expose new talent to distribution companies. Darrin Ramage of Brain Damage Films has scheduled a visit to the festival, and other distribution companies are expected as well. There are hundreds of talented filmmakers out there who have no clue how to get exposure, Kevin says. Thats where Horror Dance comes in. Horror Dance has a diverse sponsorship base, including La Strada Restaurant, Underworld Productions, The Hacker's Source, Sacred Heart Studio Inc., and others who love independent horror films. We are getting a lot of positive feedback from fans, filmmakers, and sponsors, says Kevin deVil. I really cant wait for this event, not as the organizer, but as someone who loves independent horror. DVD available for pre-order The facts are clear: after 1941 Hitler had access to the Necronomicon. Only one question remains: why did he not use it? "Experiment 17" has the answer. If you have any further information on "Experiment 17" or would like to make a donation, please email Crawling Chaos Pictures at: experiment17@hotmail.com (Thanks to Crawling Chaos
Pictures) Please note: this article contains possible spoilers The Score: The music that is being scored for this film is beyond belief, definitely leaps and bounds better than anything you'd expect from a film of our budget. The gentleman doing the music is named Kaveh Cohen our images and the feeling and tone we have been striving for in the long making of this film have been elevated and accentuated a great deal. I won't say much more about it as it's obviously something that's better heard than described. Anyway, the score will be finalized August 5th - which will put us into our final mix. The Effects: The major creature effects have been completed and that's what we're inserting into the edit this weekend. What remains are some finishing touches - things that we think will add that extra oomph the picture needs. As you may know from the story, the protagonist of the piece uses a self-made device to try and coax forth the entity that dwells within Joe Slaader. And, electricity and the early 1900's kind of perceived mysticism behind it culturally play a big part in our script. So, we are going to be layering in some electrical effects in some key sequences to sort of amp up those elements we have a little more effects work we're putting in to try to capture even more of that feeling of extra-terrestrial, other-worldly-ness that you get from the story. The entity in the story is sort of without a definitive form - a "blazing entity that shook and laughed." We've obviously given it form by making it an existing creature - but before that creature is revealed - we're trying to create some visuals that communicate in some way what Lovecraft was trying to describe. It's been a challenge - but I think what we've come up with works well. Miscellaneous: A couple of weeks
ago we met up with William Sanderson (our Joe Slaader in the film) to
do some ADR work. We hadn't seen him since we wrapped initial principle
photography and he was very gracious with his time and energy (especially
considering his hectic schedule with his part on HBO's Deadwood)
