23: Re-Animator sequels galore!
A
scooper for bloody-disgusting.com reports that Jeffrey
Combs is ready to sign on for a 4th, 5th and 6th sequel
to cult classic Re-Animator! Combs revealed
the information at this (past) weekends Horrorfind
convention in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
Re-Animator
4 (House of Re-Animator) has been
talked about in the past, with Stuart Gordon possibly
at the helm. The story (if Gorodon directs) is a political
satire that would involve V.P. Cheney passing from a heart
attack and Dr. West being called in to bring him back.
No
word on the storylines for the 5th and 6th films...

There
will also be the previously announced screening at the
H.P.
Lovecraft Film Festival this October (followed by
a live performance by Clay McLeod Chapman). And finally,
back in July, Late Bloomer was screened at the
Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. The Montreal Gazette
had the following to say:
"The
(short film) form lends itself to humour; the form itself
is constructed like a good bar joke. Sometimes, though,
a film transcends it, and that film is director Craig
Macneill's Late Bloomer, a perverted, inspired memoir
of one schoolboy (Sam Borenzweif) and his descent into
hell -- sex ed class. Like an unhinged Kelsey Grammar
reading HP Lovecraft, writer/narrator Clay McLeod Chapman
describes the young boy's mounting terror as teacher unveils
the "wingspan of horror" of "that ungodly
thing" drawn on the blackboard. It is the female
genitalia. Gradually, the coed class is rendered atavistic,
the girls "recording every pagan name their high
priestess called out." From there, things get evil.
It's a thrillingly twisted piece of work on imagination,
the mysteries of gender and sex drive, and pubescent humiliation,
and is worth an admissions price on its own."

23: "The Halfway House" DVD Signing at
Dark Delicacies in Burbank
For
Immediate Release:
Burbank,
CA August 28, 2005 Sunday, 2pm, there will be a DVD signing
of The
Halfway House at Dark
Delicacies, 4213 W. Burbank Blvd., Burbank, CA 91505.
Star Mary Woronov and writer/director Kenneth J. Hall
will be there along with other members of the cast and
crew. A free poster will be given with every copy of the
movie purchased.
The
Halfway House, the first feature on BV Entertainment's
Fright Film Factory label, is an outrageous spoof of horror/exploitation
movies, satirizing drive-in cinema from women-in-prison
films to slasher flicks. Filled with bad girls, a nasty
nun, a homicidal handyman, and a flesh-eating one-eyed
monster, the movie has already attained a strong fan following
through festival screenings and received 4 1/2 out of
5 stars from Film Threat.
Skouras/Ventura
has released both an R-rated and an unrated director's
cut now available at major rental and retail chains throughout
the US and Canada.
Both DVD versions will include a trailer and the music
video "Halfway to Hell" by Insecto Circus.
Both will be widescreen 1.85:1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 stereo
surround sound. The unrated cut will also have additional
features such as an audio commentary track by writer/director
Kenneth J. Hall and producer Ed Polgardy, deleted scenes,
and a making-of documentary entitled "Gut-Eating
Monsters from Hell."

19: The Edgar Allan Poe Collection on DVD!
|
|
For
Immediate Release:
Lurker
Films announces the future availability of the
first volume in The Edgar Allan Poe Collection.
The collection contains some excellent adaptaions
of Poe's work including George Higham's award winning
stop-motion animation short film inspired by the poem
Annabel Lee.
Annabel
Lee is quintessential Poea haunted soul,
a lost love and the nocturnal grave-quest. The epic
quality of this Orphic adventure includes expressionist
visions of a lone figure on a journey through a
nightmarish landscape in order to be re-united with
his lost love... but first he must overcome the
wrath of the "Envious Angels" that ruined
his world.
"Visionary
puppeteer George Higham emphasizes the inherent
creepiness of moving puppets and sets them against
a backdrop of rich expressionist detail. ANNABEL
LEE stands as a visual triumph and Higham a name
to watch for."
Emma Anderson, RUE MORGUE magazine #28
|
|
The volume also includes Peter Bradley's The
Raven and The Tell-Tall Heart
& an interview with Poe expert Paul Clemens.
Coming
this October, 2005...

who investigates an urban legend involving mysterious
spirits that haunt the subways of Tokyo...
The

August 15: Transformation: a new look at "The
Statement of Randolph Carter"
Edward
Martin provided Unfilmable.com with a fascinating write-up
on the making of Guerrilla Productions latest short film,
an adaptation of "The Statement of Randolph Carter".
Here's an excerpt of the article, and the rest can be
found by clicking the link below...
"The Statement of Randolph Carter" is
one of the most adapted short stories of H. P. Lovecraft.
Although a variety of factors probably contribute to this,
I think the most predominant one is that -- unlike much
of Lovecraft's work (and the derivatives thereof) -- "The
Statement of Randolph Carter", even in the heart
of the narrative, doesn't show the monster. It's entirely
the responsibility of the acting and the audience's imagination
to create the terrible things that Harley Warren experiences
beneath the grounds of that ancient cemetery. When Harley
Warren reports that what he sees is monstrous and terrifying,
it is only our imagination that creates that picture and,
as any fan of the genre will gleefully report, our imaginations
terrify us more completely than any image or sound ever
could. Our imaginations have the most direct access to
every fear that has ever gripped us, to ever discomfort
and distortion that has ever spent a few minutes teasing
our frontal lobes. No force in the Universe has greater
power to terrify us than our own imaginations and few
of Lovecraft's stories so handily use that method to crawl
under our skins as "The Statement of Randolph
Carter".

15: Ivan Zuccon discusses Colour!
Both
fangoria.com and gorezone.net recently covered the upcoming
Colour from the Dark production. Director Ivan
Zuccon had the following to say about the film:
~
"After the disaster[-filled] experience with the
Canadian producers, we are finally able to start again
to produce this movie. Since we have an international
cast, the movie will be [shot] in English. We have a lowbut
goodbudget and well shoot in digital, with
the highest quality possible, with a transfer to 35mm
for the theatrical distribution. A big part of the budget
will be spent on makeup and visual effects. The latter
will be realized by Massimo Storari, but the special makeup
supervisor is not yet confirmed. The lead female role
[filled by ABOMINABLE's Tiffany Shepis] will have a long
session of makeup during the second half of the movie
for her physical and mental degeneration after the contact
with the 'colour.'" ~

4: The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath now on DVD
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 3, 2005
The
Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath now on DVD
Portland's
Guerrilla Productions announces the availability of its
first feature film, the animated adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft's
The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, on DVD.
The
Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, one of H. P. Lovecraft's
few novels, follows the adventures of Randolph Carter,
a brave Dreamer in the Land of Dream, as he navigates
a terrifying landscape of ghouls, zoogs, Shantak birds,
nightgaunts, dholes, evil priests, and moonbeasts, all
in search of his beloved Sunset City.
"We've
really punched it up," says Director Edward Martin
III. "We've remastered the soundtrack in Dolby
Digital, added more bonus features, pulled out many scenes
that were very loosely animated and re-animated them completely
from scratch, included some very neat DVD-ROM content,
and just overall have made this an even more attractive
product than the first release."
The
first limited release of 1000 copies sold out in six months.
"That's
not going to happen again," adds Martin. "We're
committed to keeping this product alive and well for as
long as the fans want it."
Guerrilla
Productions, fueled almost entirely by caffeine, has completed
half a dozen short movies since the initial release of
The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath and is currently
in post-production on Flesh of my Flesh (www.FleshOfMyFlesh.com),
a live action horror/thriller with Lovecraftian undertones,
and pre-production on a live-action adaptation of The
Statement of Randolph Carter.
