I'm moving across town
this weekend, so I'll be offline for a few
days, but expect a huge update around the
middle of next week!
February 14: Aaron Vanek's latest on YouTube!
Aaron
Vanek's latest Lovecraftian effort, The
Call of Tutu, can now be found on YouTube
and Google
Video! Written by Richard Becker and starring
Dale Snowberger and Jennifer Knighton, The
Call of Tutu is the story of an old man
describing his cat. But is it really just
a cat?
The
film will also screen as part of Sydney, Australia's
A
Night of Horror!
(Thanks
to Jennifer Knighton, Bob Brinkman and Aaron
Vanek)
February
14: Dr. West is coming!

SOTA Toys have announced that they will release
their Herbert West (Re-Animator)
12-inch statue this year...

14: The Old Ones in name only?
An
upcoming film titled The Dark is Rising
(based on a series of books by Susan Cooper)
focuses on a youth, Will Stanton, who discovers
at age 11 that he's the last of a group of
immortals "the Old Ones" dedicated
to fighting a growing presence of dark forces.
He comes to the realization he's been charged
with saving the world...
I'm
not sure if this is a direct reference to
Lovecraft's work or a coincidental one, but
I'll do some digging and see what I can find
out!
(Thanks

February
14: The Golden Army release date announced
Universal
Pictures will release Guillermo del Toro's

10: Flesh of my Flesh seeks CG artist!
For
Immediate Release:
Flesh
of my Flesh is hurtling its way out
of post-production and we need a few small
CG touches here and there.
We
offer screen credit, website credit, links,
and we'll forward the credit to IMDB, and
of course, a finished copy of the movie. And
we're not talking about some dinky ol DVD-R,
nope, we're talking about the commercial DVDs,
with all the printed matter and all the extra
bonus features and everything. Ain't no reason
you shouldn't get something that looks great
on your shelf!
We've
produced two DVDs so far, The Dream-Quest
of Unknown Kadath and The Cosmic Horror
Fun-Pak and this'll be our third (and
not our last, either!).
If
you're interested, please drop me a note (here)
and let me know the kind of stuff you like
doing. We have simple things, and complicated
things, and one mamma-jamma of a composite
shot. Explosions, gunshots, fighter jets,
hunks of heart flying through the air, we
got it all!
Feel
free to pass this on to anyone you think might
be interested, or to repost, or whatever.
(Thanks
to Edward Martin III)

9: Lovecraft gets Unwholesome!
Stoneworks
Entertainment (The Cthulhu Chronicles
Episode One The Ropes) are currently in
pre-production on a feature-length film called
Unwholesome. The feature, which is
inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft,
will conclude the Cthulhu Chronicles
series of shorts.
Written
by Jason Smiley (who is also set to direct)
and starring Jayson Argento, the film is scheduled
for a 2009 release...
Also
in the works from Stoneworks Entertainment
is a series of screenplay shorts based on
the works of H.P. Lovecraft also meant to
be further episodes of Cthulhu Chronicles.
The shorts are being written by Mike Turner.
(Thanks
to Bob Brinkman and Jason Smiley)

9: Investigate the Unbirthen'd!
Unbirthen'd,
a film I first learned about during the HPLFF,
has been steadily ramping up it's web presence
while pre-production on the film continues.
The website contains archived news, sample
script pages, loads of images (on Photobucket)
and more! The production is currently seeking
a director and cast before they shoot a twenty
minute 'rough edit show reel' for investors.
About
the film: While on a camping trip, a group
of friends perform a forgotten ritual, half
opening a doorway to another plane. Now they
must try to survive as they navigate a world
that is half there own and half something
else. Strange creatures from beyond surround
them as they slowly begin to realize that
not only has the forest changed, but some
of them may be changing as well... and not
for the better. As the infection spreads,
so does the horrifying truth of what they
have done. "Do not with what you not
know."

updated ~
 |
According
to Dread Central, Cthulhu,
a modern-day take on The Shadow Over
Innsmouth, is ready for this years
festival circuit!
The
film follows Russell Marsh, a young,
successful history professor at Cascadia
University in Seattle. Russ had moved
away from his hometown of Rivermouth,
Oregon as a young teen, escaping the
troubles of growing up gay in a small
town. Now, years later, he receives
a phone call from his only contact with
the family, his kid sister: their mother
has died. For reasons he cannot understand
he has been named executor of her estate
and must return to Rivermouth immediately
to honor her final wishes. Upon his
arrival, things are even more confounding
than he expected and just keep getting
stranger. Russ again fights his father
while trying to reconcile broken ties,
as a worldwide environmental and political
catastrophe spins out of control to
threaten the very survival of mankind.
Russ, investigating the cult his father
presides over, uncovers a connection
between his family and the fate of the
world. Struggling against time Russ
must choose between accepting his loyalty
to those he loves and his seemingly
unavoidable destiny in this ancient
town

7: Kolchak and the Lovecraftian Horror
 |
Comicmonsters.com
reports that Carl Kolchak, the Nightstalker
will finally meet H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu
Mythos head-on after thirty years!
The
storyline revolves around Kolchak who
starts to follow the trail begun by
the photographing of a strange sea creature,
he suddenly finds himself being drawn
into a nightmare world so fantastic,
so utterly alien and frighteningly dark
that even his massive psychic defenses
begin to crumble. For once, Kolchak
isn't just following a story; he isn't
merely uncovering yet another monster
a step or two up from a serial killer.
This time he's crossing the threshold
into another reality, one which could
possibly destroy both his mind, and
the entire world!

February 7: Tarantino's
Evil Dead?
Fangoria.com reveals that Quentin Tarantino
was one of the many directors' approached
to helm Sam Raimi's Evil Dead remake...
"It
got thrown my way that he was interested in
talking to me about it," Tarantino
tells fango. "Just for posterity's
sake, I had to stop and think about it. It's
just so his thing, though. I couldn't see
why he wasn't doing it himself. It's like,
some things I could look at and say, 'I could
do this.' I could look at the first Friday
the 13th and say, 'Yeah, I know what to do
with this.' Evil Dead, I couldn't do better
than that! And my mind doesn't lean toward
the evil book stuff anyway, you know what
I mean? The Book of the Dead, that's not where
my mind goes, but I loved it in The Evil Dead."
It's odd that Tarantino says his mind doesn't
lean towards the evil book stuff, because
in a letter written to author Charles Mitchell
(The Complete H.P. Lovecraft Filmography),
he admitted that he was interested in directing
a Mythos/HPL based project (at some point)...
