27: Altar Prop from "The Halfway House"
for Sale!

For
Immediate Release:
North
Hollywood, CA, January 25, 2006 The actual altar
prop from Kenneth J. Hall's cult hit The Halfway
House has been put up for sale on ebay. Based
on a design used in Roger Corman's Lovecraftian
thriller, The Dunwich Horror, the piece was
hand-crafted out of a lightweight dense foam, plastic-coated,
and painted to look like aged bronze. It is one
of several large props created by Hall's company
Total Fabrication currently being auctioned but
the only item used in the film.
"I
hate to get rid of it considering the number of
beautiful women who have appeared topless on it,"
says Hall. "It just got too big to store.
Hopefully, someone else will give it a good home.
I will look great up on someone's wall!"
The
10-day auction will conclude Friday, February 3.
The starting bid is $250 For further details, click
here.
Released
on DVD earlier last year year, The
Halfway House continues to receive rave
reviews from critics and fans alike. Starring cult
queen Mary Woronov (Rock N' Roll High
School, Eating Raoul) as an evil nun,
it satirizes drive-in cinema, from women-in-prison
films to slasher flicks.

January 15: Hive and Madness news!
 |
While
looking through the Elder Signs Press forum,
I ran across an old post from Hive author
Tim Curran that contained news on both the Hive
movie production and Guillermo del Toro's adaptation
of At the Mountains of Madness! According
to Tim, Hive was under consideration
by several production companies as well as a
couple of producers who've worked for the SciFi
Channel. One such company (Vertigo, producers
of The Ring and The Grudge) backed
off because of a conflict of interest with Guillermo
del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness
project. He went on to say that Dreamworks isn't
interested in doing a period (1930's) version
of Madness because of the expense, and
would rather do a modern retelling (del Toro
has said that he would not be involved in a
modernized version of the story). Accordingly,
Hive could end of being a possible alternative
to using Lovecraft's original novella...

January 14: Impending Darkness...

In
what sounds like a reworking of Lovecraft's "The
Lurking Fear", filmmaker G. William (Threading
Over Dark) Stechman recently updated fangoria.com
on his next feature, Deep in the Darkness.
Based on a novel by Michael Laimo, Darkness
is the story of "a doctor and his family
who run afoul of subterranean creatures that live
in the forest near their new home." Stechman
told Fangoria.com, "Im incredibly
excited to be directing an adaptation of one of
my favorite novels. Michael Laimos atmosphere-drenched
book is a little bit of every one of my favorite
horror films, and is like an H.P. Lovecraft bedtime
story. It will be amazing to bring the novel to
life." Shooting is scheduled for early
2007...

January 11: Experimental serum anyone?
 |
While
I doubt there are any intentional Lovecraft
references in the new Brad (Death Factory)
Sykes movie, Mutation, I just had to
post this pic! The film is about a long-dead
mass murderer who is revived by an experimental
serum. He quickly gets back to his violent ways,
and the detective who tracked him down years
before has to confront him once again...
According to Sykes, the film contains martial
arts, mad scientist sci-fi and full-tilt splatter.
Razor
Digital Entertainment will release the film
in 2006.

9: In Search of Lovecaft
|
|
According
to IMDb.com, a new feature length film called
In Search of Lovecraft in currently lensing
in the San Francisco area. The film stars Denise
Amrikhas, Tytus Bergstrom, Saqib Mausoof and
Renee Sweet as Rebecca Marsh. Written and directed
by David J. Hohl, the story involves a reporter
(Rebecca Marsh) shooting a Halloween news story
on horror writer H.P. Lovecraft who discovers
that the "fiction" Lovecraft wrote
is actually true and the creatures and cults
described in his writings really exist. In an
interview with houseofhorrors.com,
director David Hohl had this to say about the
films storyline; "Well it is an original
story and very general to the mythos. It does
take as the primary "deity" Nyarlethotep,
the Haunter of the Dark. And the Trapezehedron
also has a place. But it is not an adaptation
of any Lovecraft story. Like Lovecraft himself
requested of his friends, the mythos elements
are being used while keeping original characters
and story." |

info, news and a gallery) can be found here.
