~ Chris Porter reports that he and the Willamette Radio Workshop (a group he helped found) are adapting "Pickman's Model" as a 'radio theatre piece'. He went on to say: ~It's a very straight-ahead conversion from literature to audio; I took very few liberties with the text. Most changes were, obviously, substitutions of descriptions of sounds with the sounds themselves. I also put the characters in various locations that HPL didn't specify and transposed a few passages here and there for a smoother flow.~ He hopes to have the project completed by October of this year, to coincide with the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival. Willamette Radio Workshop's
"Pickman's Model" page can be found here. (Thanks to Chris Porter,
Rick Tillman, and Andrew Migliore) Note: might contain some good Lovecraft references.... Cinema book specialist Silman-James Press has just issued JOHN CARPENTER: THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS to bookstores everywhere. Basically a book-length interview with the director by Gilles Boulenger (who has also written tomes on Tim Burton and APOCALYPSE NOW and was the editor of the French cult movie mag Cinephage), PRINCE covers all Carpenters films as well as varied topics including his Bible Belt childhood, German Expressionism, Michael Myers, Howard Hawks, John Wayne, Stephen King, quantum physics and attractive female extras, according to the publisher. Illustrated with black-and-white and 24 pages of color photos, the paperback original lists for $19.95. (Thanks to http://www.fangoria.com/) Geoffrey Clark, who made the great animated adaptation "In the Vault", sent along the following link to his animated film "The Sleeper Awakes". It's a great little short containing a Cthulhu-like Idol and an unfortunate explorer! The project was for an animation class in college, and is Geoffrey's first 2-D animated film. Click here to view "The Sleeper Awakes". You can also view "In the Vault" here. (Thanks to Geoffrey Clark) July 30: Final Destination 2 - Necronomicon mention From alt.horror.cthulhu: ~Not in the movie, but in the commentary track for a deleted scene. Among the deleted scenes is a longer version of the scene where we meet Tony Todd's character. The commentators make fun of the things they had Tony Todd say; they had him speaking Latin, for one. They say, facetiously, that they had also had his character consulting the Necronomicon.~ (Thanks to Christopher

H. P. Lovecraft's first professionally published work. The short film
clocks in at 18 minutes and 30 seconds, and is going to be available
on NTSC video, with a bonus-packed DVD available in October (details

Pictures Press Release ----- I've been given an advanced
look at the trailer for Aaron Lucchesi's short film "The
Picture in the House", and would share my thoughts on it.
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished film (hopefully at this years H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival). I also applaud Aaron for adapting a story that, to my knowledge, has never been done before. Aaron has informed me that the trailer will be available online soon. You can view the image gallery here. (Thanks to Aaron Lucchesi) ~Well, we've sent
off a copy of the nearly finished film to the H.P.
Lovecraft Film Festival, and we await their word on whether it has
been accepted. Work continues as the final sound is being edited, as
well as recording of the music for the soundtrack. We will keep you
posted.....~ (Thanks to Rick Tillman) From Creature-corner.com: Avatar comics brings you this collection of Moore's abandoned Lovecraftian work, along with interviews and script presentations. From Avatar comics: ~As for the Lovecraftian fragments from the series, those stories are also emerging from a tragically-lost project of a different kind. "Yuggoth Cultures was originally intended as a series of texts that would have been inspired by HP Lovecraft's poem cycle FUNGI FROM YUGGOTH," recalls Alan Moore.~ Click here for more. to read a great review of the film "Uzumaki". The review
was sent in by Fake-Shemp fan Steve Robertson. (Thanks to Steve Robertson) I've added a new image gallery for the film, "Monstersdotcom". It's a 12+ minute song, and is included on the Mutiny in Jonestown CD 'The Return of the Nowhere Man'. Join the Lovecraft_based_music Yahoo group here. (Thanks to Dennis) I've added a new image gallery to Unfilmable.com for the upcoming film parody "Enter the Dagon". You can view the gallery here. (Thanks to Tom Gleason) (Thanks to Ivan Zuccon) Rick Tillman sent along this interesting link to an episode of the TV series 'Hercules: The Legendary Journeys' containing The Necronomicon. The site contains the following information: ~Although the infamous Necronomicon is mentioned, it is NOT the Necronomicon from HP Lovecraft stories and/or other horror stories. It's just the episode's writer being really confused."~ If anyone has seen this episode, I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. Send them here! (Thanks to Rick Tillman) Ivan Zuccon has informed me that the Official US website for "The Shunned House" is now online. You can view it here! (Thanks to Ivan Zuccon) July 24: Alien trailer shown at Comic-Con ~update~ Dark Horizons reported that the re-release trailer was shown! Many of you may be aware that Alien is being re-released this Halloween and Dark Horizons reports the trailer for said film was screened at the recent San Diego Comic-Con. No news on what 'Director's Cut' may entail (ie. whether the story circulating that most, if not all, deleted footage will be restored, is in fact true). Source: Dark
Horizons (Thanks to http://www.countingdown.com/
and http://www.darkhorizons.com/) Leo Films has announced the street date for Ivan Zuccon's "Unknown Beyond". The DVD will be released on September 9th (the same date as "The Shunned House" from Braindamage). You can pre-order the DVD from Amazon.com here. (Thanks to Ivan Zuccon) Dear Friends, Lovecraftians and musical theatre fans, Many of you may have followed the strange saga of A Shoggoth on the Roof, the Lovecraftian mega-musical that has tormented my collaborator Andrew Leman and I for some years now. This fall, for the first time since the1979 production ended so terribly, ASOTR was to have been performed on stage. Sadly, Shoggoth seems doomed to remain the musical which cannot and must not be performed..... Click here to read the rest of Sean Branney's letter. Matzke) While skimming through the Hellboy Message Board I found this mention of "At the Mountains of Madness".... Fan Question: concerning the Mountains of Madness, I always thought it would work as a mini-series more than a movie..... Guillermo Del Toro: The novel is actually pretty brief and easily condensed in 120 minutes. Perhaps a 2 part mini-mini but with a maxi-maxi budget for the Elder ones and friends. (Thanks to The
Hellboy Message Board) ~"Enter the Dagon"
is a short film parody currently in production. It is being created
with the intention of submitting it to the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival
in Portland, Oregon. The theme behind the film short is the struggle
between literary purists and movie makers..... Click here to check out the official website for "Enter the Dagon". Click here to join the "Enter the Dagon" Yahoo Group. Brian Yuzna mentions that the possible title for the 4th Re-Animator
film could be "Revenge of Re-Animator". The title was
suggested to him by a fan at a convention. Other possible titles mentioned
were "House of Re-Animator" and "Isle of Re-Animator".
Brian noted that he would like to see Bruce Abbott return, but it all
hinged on fan reaction to "Beyond Re-Animator". In the same issue Stuart Gordon mentioned that the title to his (and Dennis Paoli's) forthcoming adaptation of "The Thing on the Doorstep" would be called "Envy". The article incorrectly credited the same story as the basis for Stuart's film "Castle Freak" (which is in reality is based on "The Outsider"). (Thanks to Fangoria Magazine) Opening in Toronto on August 14th and running to the 23rd..."Evil Dead 1&2:The Musical!!" You may have heard about another production that went up in Chicago a little while ago that was a parody of sorts of the films. Well, this Toronto production (which is completely separate from the Chicago thing) is fully authorized by the studios, and has Bruce's blessing, so it's bound to be an impressive endeavor! It features the best elements from the first 2 movies, along with some really amazing original music, a stellar script, and a gore-fest of special effects! The theatre even has a full bar right inside of it! All the info can be found on the site here. (Thanks to Danielle Spring) The wait will be a little longer for BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR on video; Lions Gate just bumped the street date from October 14 to a December 30 VHS and DVD bow. If you just cant wait, you can check out Brian Yuznas sequel at this years Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, and be on the lookout for more midnight-show bookings in selected cities this summer. In addition, BEYOND is now slated to make its Sci Fi Channel debut this October. Also, the current issue of Fangoria contains articles on "Beyond Re-Animator" and Stuart Gordon's "King of the Ants". From http://www.pickmansmodel.com/: ~Sorry for the long period of silence....We got trapped in the well and no one would let us out...Actually, we're proud to announce that we are now done with the off-line portion of the editing process, which is to say that all of the individual scenes have gone through their final edit(s). We now enter the on-line editing stage, where all the b/w and colour bits are being edited together, along with the titles and credits. We are also moving ahead with the soundtrack and sound editing. Everything looks good for finishing in time for this year's H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, but keep your tentacles crossed for us anyways.....~ (Thanks to Rick Tillman) Click here to read a review of "Ice Crawlers". The two friends Randolph Carter and Joel Manton spend a sunny autumn afternoon on an old far off 17th century cemetery. An argument arises, concerning the horror stories written by Carter. Especially one story draws Manton`s sarcasm: The Unnamable... Encouraged by the atmosphere of the old burial ground Carter tells his friend about the origin of that novel. He claims it to be based on a more than 200 years old local legend. Manton listens with increasing fascination, while darkness descends on the cemetery. And suddenly both of them become part of the legend as well...~ Click here to read the updated cast & crew list. Click here to view the image gallery.
