27: Lovecraft's Statement!

The Statement
is an indepently produced short film based
on H.P. Lovecraft's The Statement of Randolph
Carter. The film stars Adam Fozard, Charles
Hunt, Ewan Main, Hugh Wright and Amy Fallon,
and was written and directed by Kurt Dudley.
It has already been submitted to several film
festivals (including the HPLFF), and a teaser
trailer is forthcoming. Look for more stills
and information about the project soon!
About the film: Randolph Carter is to be
questioned by two police officers; both believe
foul play is involved with the strange disappearance
of Randolph's close friend Harley Warren.
Randolph must recount the events leading up
to Harley's disappearance, taking them on
a journey from Randolph's first encounter
with Harley's strange indecipherable book,
to the creepy graveyard ruins hidden within
Cypress woods.
But
will Randolph's statement be believed or will
it condemn him to a fate worse than death!
The
statement of Randolph Carter will reveal a
horrific truth of cosmic horror that is too
utterly beyond thought!

July 27: Monster film not Lovecraftian...
There's been a lot of
talk lately about a possible Lovecraft connection
in LOST mastermind JJ Abrams new project
Cloverfield (which will not be the
films release title), and Abrams himself squashed
the rumor (and several others) at the San
Diego Comic-Con...
"This
will not be a Godzilla or Voltron movie,"
says Abrams, "And it has nothing to
do with Lovecraft, so let's put all these
rumors to bed. I made this movie because I
wanted to create a monster film for American
audiences that would be as iconic as Godzilla
is to the Japanese."
The
film, which may be titled Colossus
or Monstrous, is set for a 1-18-08
release...

July 25: A Night of Horror Film Festival:
Call for Entries!
 |
For
Immediate Release:
A Night of Horror International Film Festival
Announces Call for Entries.
Sydney,
Australia, July 2, 2007 - A Night of
Horror International Film Festival announces
its official call for entries today.
The
inaugural festival, which was held at
Sydney's Chauvel Cinema earlier this
year, screened 47 short horror films,
from filmmakers in 10 different countries.
The next festival is scheduled for April
2-6, 2008, and is expanding to include
feature films as well as shorts.
"Everyone
at the festival is incredibly excited
that we are accepting feature films
this year," explains festival
director Lisa Mitchell. "Independently
produced horror features, from Night
of the Living Dead, through The
Blair Witch Project, to Australia's
own Wolf Creek, offer some of
the most potent viewing experiences
in the annals of cinema." Mitchell's
co-director, Dr. Dean Bertram agrees:
"Sydney, Australia needs an
annual event that showcases the best
horror films from Australia and the
world. Feature films are obviously an
important part of such an endeavour.
However, the festival also remains strongly
committed to shorts. The short film
format allows emerging
|
|
filmmakers
to really cut their teeth on the genre,
offering a creative freedom that is
often compromised when financial concerns
come into play."
The festival is also maintaining its
commitment to cinematic adaptations
of cult horror author H. P. Lovecraft,
and is again accepting entries for its
special Lovecarft category. Nine Lovecraft
inspired shorts screened at the 2007
event, with Michael Granberry's fantastic
adaptation of From Beyond winning
the festival's "Best Lovecraft
Film" award.
Films
that are selected to screen at the 2008
festival will compete for several thousand
dollars worth of cash and prizes (including
the Kodak and Atlab sponsored "Best
Australian Film Award", and People
magazine's "Best Scream Queen"
award.)

Film Festival are available at: www.anightofhorror.com

July 25: Dark Paradox trailer, images
and more!
Frontline
Films founder Brian Clement sends word that
the Dark Paradox teaser preview is
now available! You can find the teaser on
frontlinefilms.net
and the films MySpace
page...
About
the film:
Dark
Paradox follows a writer's unwitting discovery
of the history and secret efforts of a cult
in Victoria, Canada that has been engaged
in a 60 year effort to open a portal between
our world and another, letting in a host of
vicious interdimensional beings. The city
of Victoria was in fact rumoured in the 1980's
to be the second worldwide "capital of
Satanism" after Geneva, Switzerland.
Dark Paradox explores the idea that this myth
was not only partially true but also partially
inaccurate in suggesting the cult activity
was "Satanic" when in fact it was
based on the worship of ancient extraterrestrial
"elder gods" in the vein of H.P.
Lovecraft's fiction.
The expected theatrical premiere date will
be in the weeks preceding Halloween, 2007.

July 23: Announcing Lovecraft: Fear
of the Unknown!

For Immediate Release:
"The oldest and strongest emotion of
mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest
kind of fear is fear of the unknown."
H.P. Lovecraft
Wyrd
is proud to announce production of its first
documentary LOVECRAFT: FEAR OF THE
UNKNOWN. The feature length piece will
chronicle H.P. Lovecrafts life, work
and mind through interviews with today's luminaries
in the field of dark fiction including:
Ramsey
Campbell (author - Inhabitant of the Lake,
Darkest Part of the Woods)
John Carpenter (director - Halloween,
The Thing)
Guillermo Del Toro (director - Pan's
Labyrinth, Hellboy)
Neil Gaiman (author - Fragile Things,
American Gods)
Stuart Gordon (director - Edmond, Re-Animator)
S.T. Joshi (author/biographer - H.P. Lovecraft:
A Life, The Angry Right)
Caitlin R. Kiernan (author - Daughter Of
Hounds, Silk)
Andrew Migliore (founder - H.P. Lovecraft
Film Festival)
Robert Price (author/editor - Crypt of
Cthulhu, The Da Vinci Fraud)
Peter Straub (author - Ghost Story,
Lost Boy Lost Girl)
The
documentary will also feature creature art
from some of the top Cthulhu artists including
Tom Sullivan (artist, The Evil Dead
and Call Of Cthulhu role playing game).
Howard
Phillips Lovecraft (1890 1937) was
the forefather of modern horror, having created
the Cthulhu mythos.
For
those of you who don't know, the Cthulhu mythos
is a series of loosely connected stories by
H.P. Lovecraft including The Call of Cthulhu,
The Dunwich Horror and At The Mountains
Of Madness.
In
these tales, a race of god-like beings known
as the Old Ones lived on Earth ages before
there were any men. Gone now, they wait in
the recesses of existence for the great priest
Cthulhu to rise again and regain dominion
over our world.
The
Old Ones are an indifferent race of monsters
beyond our control and comprehension. To gaze
upon them is to go mad.
Lovecraft's
weird tales have intrigued writers such as
Stephen King, Robert Bloch and Neil Gaiman.
His influence can be seen in film (Re-Animator,
Hellboy, and Alien), games (The
Call of Cthulhu role playing enterprise),
music (Metallica, Iron Maiden) and pop culture
in general.
For
many, H.P. Lovecraft is one of their favorite
writers of the macabre. With the publication
of his collected works by The Library Of America,
he has joined Edgar Allan Poe and Ambrose
Bierce as part of our nations literary
heritage.
But
what lead an Old World, xenophobic gentleman
from Providence, Rhode Island to create one
of literature's most far-reaching mythologies?
What attracts even the minds of the 21st century
to these stories of unspeakable abominations
and cosmic gods?
LOVECRAFT:
FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN is a Wyrd documentary.
Our first production. It's being produced
by William Janczewski, James B. Myers, &
Frank H. Woodward and directed by Frank H.
Woodward.
The
film is already gaining some fan support.
Look
for exclusive clips and updates here on Wyrdtuff.com.
