June 27: Further Beyond the Wall of Sleep updates!

Director Thom Maurer updated me on several of the issues I addressed in my "Beyond the Wall of Sleep" update on June 21. He said (in regards to the re-shoots), "The damaged film stock, though an issue early on, is actually not the reason we did the re-shooting in LA. We were thankfully able to cleverly edit around the damaged film without having to sacrifice a great deal. The actual reason for the re-shoots were to improve on the special effects. A lot of work has been done to give more life and nuance to our creature as well as improving on some of the practical effects that didn't come off well during the extremely short initial shoot time."

He added, "As a result of the new stuff - I believe we have a scarier, more visceral film experience for the audience."

As to my question of co-director Barrett Leigh's involvement, "...Barrett Leigh is most certainly a part of all of this activity. His enthusiasm and hard work is probably the core reason this film is still alive and breathing after 3 years in the making!” he also said, "...enough cannot be said about the efforts of our producer, Koko Polosajian."

Thom, Barrett and Koko have been with the project since the beginning, and they feel that "Beyond the Wall of Sleep" is "one of the more faithful Lovecraft films to come down the pike."

I hope to have further updates soon on one of Unfilmable.com's most eagerly awaited projects!

June 27: El Necronomicon de los Templarios

Christopher K. Philippo recently came across this reference in the book "Knights of Terror: The Blind Dead Films of Amando de Ossorio" by Nigel J. Burrell (Midnight Media, 1995).

On page thirty-five, the filmography ends with this note:

"The Winter 1993 edition of US fanzine VIDEOOZE announced that Ossorio was 'shopping around a script for the fifth BLIND DEAD film, EL NECRONOMICON DE LOS TEMPLARIOS'. At the time of compiling this booklet the script has not been optioned, either in Spain or elsewhere; go figure..."

Christopher also found one mention of that title on Google, an alt.horror post from 1999 (click here). An individual named Bob wrote "Incidentally, a few years ago I had an opportunity to look over the script for a fifth 'Blind Dead' film De Ossorio was shopping around. (EL NECRONOMICON DE LOS TEMPLARIOS). I vaguely remember it having something to do with the Templars being 'nuclear-powered' and terrorizing a bunch of campers in the woods. I am not making this up!!!"

If anyone has any further information, I'd be interested in hearing about it...

June 27: The Hound updates forthcoming

According to Nick Gains, he will be completely revamping his website for his animated film version of H.P. Lovecraft's "The Hound". Some of the updates you will see include; a news archive (in which you can add comments), images of the underground museum, completely new storyboards (plus an article on why the storyboards are taking so long and why it [the project] keeps growing), new images (including minor characters designs).

He's also added one new image for you to look at. Nick notes: I figure that amongst all the dead things John and Charles have dug up, at one point they found and stole the world's only real stuffed dodo. Which they keep in the corner of the museum, sorta as a joke. I figure they're those kinda people.

You can check out the image here.

June 24: Raimi Talks...

Source: IESB, Moviehole.net

Bruce Campbell recently admitted the fact that there are talks of an Evil Dead 4 and Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash. Now Sam Raimi is slowly giving up clues that one or maybe both of these projects might get off the ground.

According to Moviehole.net, Sam Raimi had the following to say:

Sam Raimi told IESB.net (at the "Spider-Man 2" Premiere) that he'd be interested in doing both an "Evil Dead 4" and a "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash".

Says Raimi on Evil Dead 4, "I'd like to make another Evil Dead movie. Right now I don't have any plans to, but it would be a lot of fun".

And on Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash he remarks, "That sounds interesting. I'd love to read a script? If one exists".

Unfortunately, Sam is concentrating on getting "Spider-Man 3" off the ground, so any and all other projects are years away…

June 22: The Lurking Fear comes to DVD

Source: fullmoondirect.com

It looks like Full Moon Entertainment is opening their vaults and re-releasing various films on DVD. According to the official website, the films are being re-edited and re-energized (see below).

One of the first films being released is Lurking Fear: Infinite Evil (simply titled Infinite Evil), along with two other films under the banner title, Tomb of Terror. There is no mention of special features or running times,
but the DVD price is a low, $9.98. It will be interesting to see how the film plays out in this new incarnation...

...Now if they would only resurrect Empire Pictures lost Evil Clergyman short.

~From Full Moon's creepy vault of gems comes 3 gothic horror stories re-edited and re-energized from past classic films, designed to freak you out and pull you even deeper into its web of madness. In Ascent From Hell an idealistic she-devil heads for the world above to begin serving her own brand of justice. Infinite Evil deals with a race of cannibalistic genetic freaks that live below a cemetery and come out to feed during thunderstorms. In Evil Never Dies, Theriel, the Black Angel is summoned from his resting place to usher in the end of the world.~

You can purchase Tomb of Terror here.

June 21: Coming soon: Beyond the Wall of Sleep?

According to several sources (including director Thom Maurer and others close to the production), Beyond the Wall of Sleep looks like it will finally see the light of day. Sources have stated that the film is currently in post-production and may be released in the fall of this year. Most recently, several scenes had to be re-shot (in California), due to several cans of bad film stock. The final credits are currently being completed for the release. No word on whether co-director, Barrett J. Leigh, is part of this current activity…

The documentary, Behind the Wall of Sleep (directed by Bob Ziegler) is not currently scheduled for release. However, the producers are currently trying to get coverage concerning the work being done on the film in California to be included in the documentary.

More as it becomes available.

His cases delve into the dark corners of the world, searching for truth in the occult remnants of ancient civilizations. Now, the greatest mystery of his past is about to become the most dangerous case he has ever faced. With the help of his ex-flame, archeologist Aline Cedrac (Tara Reid), and his bitter rival, government agent Richard Burke (Stephen Dorff), Edward Carnby is about to learn that just because you don¹t believe in something, that doesn't mean it can't kill you. Alone in the Dark is based on the best-selling Atari videogame series.

Bloody-disgusting reports that Ron Perlman announced (at the recent DreamCon) that actual filming for Hellboy 2 will start August 2005. As mentioned earlier, pre-production starts in January of 2005.

Unfortunately, this pushes "At the Mountains of Madness" even further into the future. Hopefully Aaron Vanek will get to the bottom of this in his upcoming interview with director Guillermo del Toro (see June 13)…

June 19: H.P. Lovecraft's "The Hole"?

While doing research on another film I came across a message board post from an individual by the name of Robert Olsson. In it he mentioned that he and a friend are currently working on a script and will be shooting (this summer) a short horror film based on H.P. Lovecraft's novel, "The Hole". Since I'm not familiar with a Lovecraft story by that name, I'll put this one in the rumor section until I can find out more. The film is to be shot in Sweden, so is it possible that "The Hole" is the Swedish name for another story?

More as is becomes available.

June 13: Some Company update

Here's an update on the status of several of Aaron Vanek's Some Company projects…

Have you found The Yellow Sign on TV?

According to Aaron, Richard Becker has started a public access cable show called "Doctor Morbius's Movie Mausoleum". Similar to other horror hosts, he shows cheesy horror movies punctuated with humorous comments. During a showing of Bela Legosi's The Gorilla, he interrupts it halfway and plays The Yellow Sign instead. Aaron is interviewed (as some guy off the street) where he gets his name wrong, forgets about the plot, etc. It will be making the rounds to other public access stations, so check back for show times in your area.

The Colour Out of Space Wins Written Image Contest

Aaron submitted his screenplay adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "The Colour Out of Space" (see Forthcoming Terrors) to Columbia College Chicago's "Written Image" contest. The screenplay took first place in the contest!

Interview with director Guillermo del Toro

Aaron will be interviewing director Guillermo del Toro (Blade II, Devil's Backbone, Hellboy) about his career for a retrospective to be printed in an upcoming issue of CultCuts magazine. CultCuts also picked Aaron's The Yellow Sign as one of their favorite short films of 2003.

Jean-Paul Ouellette's film The Unnamable II: The Statement of Randolph Carter has been released on DVD (simply called The Unnamable II), and can be found for under $6.00 at your local Wal-mart! Unfortunately, the only extra feature is scene access…

June 11: Lou Reed's "The Raven" internet project

June 9: Another Evil Dead videogame?

According to gorezone.net and PC Zone Magazine, there is a another Evil Dead game on the way. Bruce Campbell mentioned it while talking about a possible Evil Dead 4 (in an interview with Ain't It Cool News).

Campbell said: "We've got these Evil Dead games coming out left and right. The new one's coming out next year, next Spring. I did the voice for it for Cranky Pants."

There's no further information on THQ or Cranky Pants...
