May 23: Stuart
Gordon and Lovecraft together again!
 |
Like
Dagon, another Stuart Gordon/H.P.
Lovecraft collaboration will finally
find it's way to the screen after languishing
in development hell for years
Gordon
and Stuck (directed by Gordon
and scripted by John Strysik) producer
Robert Katz are working on The Thing
on the Doorstep for Katz's Amicus
films. The film is currently in pre-production
with Katz producing under his new partnership
with Etchie Stroh and Moonstone Entertainment
The
project started out as an hour-long
adaptation for a proposed cable anthology
series, but was expanded when the series
didn't happen (according to an interview
with Dennis Paoli),
|
|
and at one time Gordon only expected
to produce with someone else directing
(see: www.mania.com),
but that seems to have changed with
the Amicus deal.
Stuart said about the film, "I'm
currently toying with a project based
on his story, The Thing on the Doorstep.
You know how they say people look more
like each other the
longer they're married? Well, in this
story, the people actually turn into
each other. It's Lovecraft's ode to
marriage (from www.filmthreat.com)."

May 23: Sneak peek of
Chill thrills fans at Fangoria's Weekend
of Horrors
For
Immediate Release:

Shaun Kurtz and
Fangoria's Tony Timpone
|
Rojak
Films presented an exclusive and extended
sneak peek film trailer for "Chill",
a new psychological horror thriller at
Fangorias Weekend of Horrors convention.
"Chill" was featured
as part of Fango's Fearful Film Fest (Lovecraft's
Shorts program) on Saturday, May 19, 2007.
This year's convention was held (May 18-20)
at the Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel,
and attracted hundreds of loyal horror
fans from across the country. Celebrities
in attendance were: Eli Roth ("Hostel"),
Clive Barker ("Hellraiser"),
Thora Birch ("American Beauty",
"Ghost World"), Shaun
Kurtz ("Chill"), Rob
Zombie ("Halloween")
and Neil Marshall ("The Descent")
to name a few.
Fangoria is an internationally-distributed
magazine for devoted fans |
of
the horror genre in film, television and
fiction. Articles go behind the scenes
and on the sets of upcoming horror movies
and TV shows to examine the costumes,
make-up and technology that create the
gruesomeness on the screen.
"Chill" viewers expressed
a strong liking and responded positively
to its creepy story and gory visual effects.
They also chuckled at times over its dark
humor. |
"I truly believe this film will be
the next cult classic," said Shaun
Kurtz, Executive Producer.
"We have a great story, an awesome
cast, and worked hard to craft a project that
would be unique and pleasing to our fans.
I love the fact that Fangoria fans are really
sophisticated and they get it."
"Chill"stars Thomas Calabro
("Melrose Place"), Ashley
Laurence ("Hellraiser"),
and James Russo ("The Ninth Gate,"
"Donnie Brasco"). It is written
and directed by veteran filmmaker Serge Rodnunsky,
and produced by Rodnunsky and Shaun Kurtz.
The film tells the tale of an aspiring writer,
Sam (Calabro), who gets a job as a clerk in
an inner city grocery mart owned by Dr. Munoz,
a former research scientist who claims to
have a rare skin condition that forces him
to live in sub-freezing temperatures. But
it's what Sam doesn't know that might prove
more fatal. His newfound employment is just
a cover for a darker, more disturbing secret
that lives behind the walls of the grocery
mart. Sam is horrified when he discovers that
Munoz died some time ago, but has kept himself
alive through occult measures and the flesh
that he harvests from his kidnapped victims.
"Chill" is inspired by H.P.
Lovecraft's short story of the macabre, "Cool
Air."
A DVD release date is pending for "Chill"
and this information will be announced at
a later date. For more information, please

23: GP Director awarded "Auteur of the
Year" by Blue November
For Immediate Release:
Guerrilla
Productions Director awarded
"Auteur of the Year" by
Blue November Film Festival
Portland's
Guerrilla Productions announces that Director
Edward Martin III was awarded Auteur of the
Year by the Blue November Micro Film Festival.
According
to Festival Director Bret Mix: "...the
'Auteur of the Year' award is a special prize
given to one filmmaker who typifies the best
of the "do-it-yourself" film ethic.
In keeping with tradition, this is a non-jury
prize and is hand-selected by the festival
director to honor multiple achievements of
an individual rather than a single work."
"This
is just really, really cool," said
Martin. "I like to think that people
will like this movie or that movie, but the
idea that someone would like the body of work
enough to offer me this award, well it just
blows me away."
Edward,
through Guerrilla Productions and workshops,
has been making movies since 2001, starting
with the award-winning short "The
Testament of Tom Jacoby." The Blue
November Micro Film Festival screened "Innsmouth
Legacy," a short tale of despair
inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft,
and "The Testament of Tom Jacoby,"
inspired by spending too much time underground.
The
Blue November Film Festival and Electric Night
Entertainment can be found online at http://www.electricnight.com/
Guerrilla
Productions, fueled almost entirely by caffeine,
has completed half a dozen short movies since
the initial release of its first feature The
Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath and
is currently in post-production on Flesh
of my Flesh (www.FleshOfMyFlesh.com),
a live action horror/thriller with Lovecraftian
undertones, as well as several short projects.
