November 29: Re-pentetrator trailer on-line

I wasn't sure if I should post the following or not, but fangoria.com did so why not? I've known about this one for some-time (thanks to a long-time Unfilmable.com contributor)...

Fangoria.com reports, "As if Re-Animator wasn’t bloodily and sexually extreme enough, now Punk Runk Holocaust director Doug Sakmann and cohorts Joanna Angel and Tommy Pistol have come up with a porno spoof of Stuart Gordon’s classic called Re-penetrator."

The project’s official website provides a synopsis and trailer. The film originally appeared on Angel's Burning Angel website, but she was forced to remove it. The full movie will be available soon...

Check out fangoria's article (please note: contains adult material) for links to the above mentioned sites.

November 29: Rough Magik street date!

For immediate release:

Lurker Films Announces the H.P. Lovecraft Collection Volume 2: Rough Magik on DVD

PORTLAND, OR (PRWEB) November 26, 2004 -- Lurker Films, Inc. the world's leading producer and publisher of Lovecraft related film products announced the release of The H.P. Lovecraft Collection™ Volume 2: Rough Magik on DVD and will be available from merchants throughout the United States and Canada by December 6th.

Rough Magik, a proposed BBC television pilot written and produced by Stephen Parsons, plugs nicely into the dark world of Delta Green (a role playing game based on the mythos of author H.P. Lovecraft), and concerns The Night Scholars, a clandestine organization setup in England to monitor the ancient cult of Cthulhu. After decades of compiling an enormous database of arcane information, they have come to a single, incontrovertible conclusion: the Sleeping God is waking. Diana Armitage, with the help of her Home Office liaison, the mysterious Mr. Moon (Paul Darrow), launch an aggressive campaign against the Dreamers. This operation, designated the Rough Magik initiative, was successful but they trod on the toes of some powerful people, amidst accusations of financial impropriety and possible treason, and the Night Scholars were disbanded. Now years later, the old magic is returning, the Sleeping God is rising, and there are more Dreamers than Mr. Moon can handle as he struggles to rebuild the Night Scholars before its too late.

The H.P. Lovecraft Collection Volume 2: Rough Magik DVD includes:

Rough Magik feature film including a commentary audio track by writer/producer Stephen W. Parsons
• Exclusive Rough Magik slide show of behind the scenes images
• Bob Fugger's short film Terrible Old Man
• Bob Fugger's short film From Beyond
• The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets music videos Colour Me Green & Worship Me Like A God.
• Interviews with the crew of Terrible Old Man
• Interview with the foremost Lovecraft scholar S.T. Joshi.
• Bonus trailers & Easter eggs

More information about Rough Magik can be found at http://www.roughmagik.com in December including additional production notes, stills and excerpts from the unpublished novel.

The H.P. Lovecraft Collection Volume 2: Rough Magik DVD will be available through retail at a suggested price of US$21.95. The DVD is not rated but a rating of PG-13 is suggested due to language and violence. Total running time is over 130 minutes.

November 29: Combs talks House of Re-Animator!

A bloody-disgusting.com news source passed along Jeffrey Combs thoughts on "House of Re-Animator". Read on for more!

Pollution writes, "I spoke to Jeffery Combs (spelling) at Starbase indy today (11/25) about the possability of doing another Reanimator movie. It seems that his agent contacted him last month regarding such, and he said, "I love that character. I would really like to do another movie. I can't wait to get the script." It seems that before Jeffery gets his hands on this script there are certian contractual items that need to be clarified. Jeffery can't wait to get started on this one."

Stuart Gordon had this to say about the "House of Re-Animator" storyline, "One idea I am kicking around is House of Re-animator. It is a political satire that should certain people be back in office, then I would do it. I hope I do not have to go ahead with it, but if I do, it would be about V.P. Cheney passing from a heart attack and since he basically runs everything, Dr. West is called in to bring him back. I would only go on with this in the event of re-election as otherwise it would be old news."

November 28: Lovecraftian "Lost Things"?

Source: Dark Horizons

I found the following while looking through Dark Horizons news archive (dated October 12th, 2004)...

~Another Aussie thriller flick, but far more further along is "Lost Things". Set to hit theatres in NSW & ACT on November 11th and the rest of the country December 9th, "Lost Things" re-enters the world of Poe and Lovecraft where death isn't the ultimate horror, as four teenagers go away on a secluded beach for a weekend of surf, sex and discovery only to find they are not the only ones there, and that their dreams are turning into nightmares. The screenplay is by Stephen Sewell ("The Boys"), directed by Martin Murphy and produced by Ian Iveson.~

November 28: Dracula and Lovecraft...

Source: Coming Soon!

Comingsoon.net recently spoke with Blade: Trinity writer/director David Goyer about the upcoming film. According to David, the Drake/Dracula character is the basis for some of Lovecraft's gods (in the Blade universe):

"...progenitor of the vampire race, who's Dracula but he's 70,000 years old and the whole idea is that Dracula is just this tiny piece of the jigsaw puzzle that Stoker happened to hear about. So he's got many names and Dracula is only one of them. We actually refer to him as Drake in the film. And at the beginning of the film, although you won't see it here, the movie opens in Iraq, which used to be Sumerian, Mesopotamian. The whole idea is Drake/Dracula was also the genesis of the Sumerian god, even some of the Lovecraft stuff."

It should be noted that the original ending for the first Blade film was to involve a Lovecraftian creature as stated on the DVD...

"Apparently, when the crew was originally making the ending for the movie, they had this brilliant idea of making the Blood God this big, amorphous, tentacled "thing straight out of something by Lovecraft". Turns out, in the alternate ending, it's a nasty piece of work that would have made the master proud. It just didn't feel right for the movie. According to the director, the test audience tuned out when Frost turned into the tentacled thing, so they changed the ending to keep his lovely brand of villainy going..."

November 28: Caltiki - The Immortal review!

Some reviewers have suggested a connection with the works of American fantastic author H.P. Lovecraft, in that Caltiki is a god from Earth’s ancient past, possibly one of the first ever beings to appear on the planet, whose sole objective is to consume the world, giving it something in common with the Elder Gods who used to inhabit the planet in Lovecraft’s writings, and are waiting to reclaim it...

November 24: Enter the Dagon voted fan favorite!

Enter the Dagon won first place in the Fan Film category at the NecroComicon convention in Los Angeles.

According to Eben (the convention organizer), "Enter the Dagon ROCKED the Fan Film contest, winning hands down. So if it matters, among it's other praises, it's the winner of the 2004 NecroComicon Fan Film Contest."

November 24: Colour from the Dark news!

Here's some great news on this highly anticipated adaptation of "The Colour Out of Space". Ivan Zuccon has informed me that he is so determined to see this film go into production next spring that he will self finance it if necessary...

After the unfortunate problems he experienced with several Canadian producers, Ivan began the search for another production company with some success. According to Ivan, the film will resume production in the spring of 2005 (with-or-without new producers). He expects the film to be ready for release in the winter of 2005, and is continuing with almost all of the cast and crew intact. A replacement for make-up artist Mauro Fabrisky is currently being sought.

The official website for the film has been updated to reflect these changes, and will continue to cover the film as it moves into production.

November 22: This isn't good...

According to several sources, Moviesonline has reported that Sean William Scott (American Pie) is in the running to play the role of Ash (brilliantly portrayed by Bruce Campbell in the originals). Read on...

"It is now being reported by Dheatre.com that actor Sean William Scott is in the running to play Ash in the re-make of Evil Dead. I am not sure whether this is good or bad. I still want Bruce Campbell to play the role, and I dont think anyone can replace him in this role. Sean is a talented actor who plays good quirky roles, but please, nobody can top Bruce Campbell."

The Blue November film festival has come and gone, and it was a blast. Captain Chambers and Fae Wiedenhoeft put on an amazing weekend with a wide variety of films (both local and international). There were also displays by local artists and gatherings at several area eateries and hang outs...

Both Giovanni Furore's "Pickman's Model" and Aaron Vanek's "The Yellow Sign" screened and were well received. The Yellow Sign also won an award for Best Lighting! The awards were one-of-a-kind wood sculptures created by local artist Neil T. Cluck. Congratulations to Aaron and all the other winners...

November 20: New Ash?

According to bloody-disgusting.com (via Dark Horizons), the idea for the Evil Dead remake came about during the Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash talks. It also looks as though Bruce Campbell will not be playing Ash in the film. One name being mentioned is Mulholland Drive's Justin Theroux. Read on for more...

"I was one of the several dozen that submitted a Freddy vs Jason sequel treatment to New Line back in November 2003. It ended up that one of the execs there had his treatment - "Freddy vs Jason vs Ash" - met most favorably (saves starting up another payroll for an outsider you see?) and it was the one that was all set to go. Then things changed...

They began negotiations with Sam Raimi. I understand that as soon as Raimi saw that there was some interest in his Evil Dead franchise, he started thinking about other possibilities for the character and the remake idea was born out of that, and at the end of the day - money talked. He gets a bigger stake in ownership this way, whereas NL wanted a 'hand your character over to us' handshake. They were trying to work out a way they could both win, but it just didn't come off.

Anyway, Senator International is doing the new series of "Evil Dead" movies. And nope, Bruce Campbell - besides a cameo I assume - isn't going to playing Ash. Not sure whether that's the financing parties decision or Raimi's. Guessing the suits made the call. One name being thrown about for the part of Ash is a guy named Justin Theroux from "Charlies Angels: Full Throttle" and "Mulholland Drive". Will be interesting to see how the fans take to him and the new start in general".

November 20: The interview of Cthulhu

File Front recently interviewed Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth producer Dennis Cheng. In it he confirms that the game is set for release on PC and Xbox in the first quarter of 2005.

He also discusses some of what makes the game different including the absence of a HUD (the on-screen display that usually shows health, ammo, etc.) as well as how the madness aspect comes into play and the level of gore and mayhem gamers can expect.

November 18: Evil Dead: The remake?

Dread Central reports that Sam Raimi is forgoing a new Evil Dead sequel (part 4) in favor of a remake of the first film!

"Variety announced that Raimi, partner Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell are both financially and creatively putting their efforts into remaking the Evil Dead franchise from the ground up under Raimi and Tapert’s production arm, Ghost House Pictures. Raimi has said he will not direct, but instead wants to find some new blood to get behind the camera and get the franchise started all over again."

November 18: Lovecraft inspired music and music video

Back in April of 2004, guitarist, performer, and composer Krispen Hartung released a CD that contained several Lovecraft inspired songs. Currently, he is working on new material (along with some experimental music videos) in the same vein...

Last month he wrote a song called "The Rise of Cthulhu", a dark improvisational piece performed entirely on the acoustic guitar with real-time looping technology and tone altering effects. He recently finished a video to accompany the song, which is "live spermatozoa swimming upstream in moving seminal fluid, at 400X magnification." The video is called Gene Flow.

You can find more music and videos inspired by Lovecraft by clicking here.

November 18: Hellboy 2 news...

In a Now Playing Magazine interview, Guillermo del Toro states that he’s been working closely with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola [again] to come up with an idea for the second film. It's likely that they will be going with an idea that came about in the early stages of the first film...

Most everybody is coming back. Abe Sapien is coming back. Liz, Myers…even Professor Broom is doing a little cameo. We have a moment in the movie where you see Professor Bruttenholm as a younger man reading a story to Hellboy.

Other characters (from the comics) will make cameos, including Johan, the man with no body, and one of the villains from the first movie.

Since del Toro is still working on Pan’s Labyrinth it’s probably going to be late 2005 before any production [on Hellboy 2] begins...

November 12: Whose in Hellboy 2?

SCI FI Wire recently spoke with Jeffrey Tambor (who played BPRD agent Dr. Tom Manning) about the Hellboy sequel...

"I am signed," Tambor says in the interview. "Whether they pick that up, I think they will, thank God I'm alive. Some people didn't make it, you know what I mean? Thank God there was that last little thing they filmed [where I'm] going, 'Hello? Hello?'" In the film, Tambor's character was left trapped deep inside a mountain at the end, but he apparently survived.

November 11: Horrora in 3D!

Back in January of this year, storyboard and graphic artist Pete Von Sholly sent me some great images which I was very pleased to add to Unfilmable.com. The images were mock-up box designs for a line of model kits that he would like to produce someday. Although the models have yet to be realized, they have been turned into some very cool three dimensional model boxes by Pete and box designer David Vaughn. Along with those Lovecraft inspired creature boxes, they have produced a Monster Odd Rod Series, Modern Monster Series (including The Thing and The Blob) and a Prehistoric Monster Series...

The boxes are available for $24.95 each (or $22.00 for orders of 3 or more).

November 10: Stern Father Neath the Mould production begins!

Production on Tom Gleason's (Enter the Dagon) documentary began this past Sunday. Based on the Necronomicon book by Richard D. Squires, Stern Fathers 'Neath the Mould is about Lovecraft's family on his Father's side and the author/historian (Richard Squires) who's quest has been to learn more about them. Squires has discovered a family of people more interesting and noble then Lovecraft ever led people to believe through his correspondence. Though they do have their fair share of tragedy and madness...

November 10: The Vessel

Gothic teenager Katrina Webster steals a mysterious Occult tome from her local magic shop and sets forth in motion events which will change her life forever. Intrigued by the ancient spells in the book Katrina along with her friend Jeff, decide to try summoning one of the ancient Demonic spirits in the book. The spell succeeds, but at an awful price and Katrina is possessed and tormented by the demon known as Sorath.

"The Vessel" is a new short film written and co-directed by Jason Voss (who is an occasional illustrator for Unspeakable Oath and did artwork for Chaosium's card game MYTHOS). Jason and co-director Robert Rundle set out to create a film that while not based on any one Lovecraft story, contained atmosphere and tension inspired by the master (among others). Some of the films dialog was inspired by Lovecraft's story "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward"...

November 3: Will Lovecraft go from comic to screen?

Back in January of this year I reported (via creature-corner.com) that Vertigo comics was releasing a graphic novel called "Lovecraft". The comic was written by screenwriter Hans Rodionoff (Man-Thing, Clive Barker's Tortured Souls) and debuted to very favorable reviews (you can read Christian Matzke's review here). The intro was even written by director (and Lovecraft fan) John Carpenter...

In May Comics2Film interviewed Hans Rodionoff in which he revealed that it was actually adapted from a feature film script he had written earlier on. According to Comics2Film, "Rodionoff has adapted comic books for the screen and recently one of his screenplays was adapted to comics. "Lovecraft" is a new hardcover graphic novel from Vertigo. It's based on a screenplay by Rodionoff that was adapted by comic scribe Keith Giffen and features art by Enrique Breccia. In "Lovecraft" the monstrous Elder Gods that legendary horror writer H.P. Lovecraft wrote about are real and the writer is the only one aware of their existence."

Han's goes on to say, "Lovecraft's journey from screenplay to comic began with a fourth grade school assignment. "When I hit fourth grade, we had to do a biographical report for school. Not wanting to do mine on Benjamin Franklin, I rooted around in the library and found 'Lovecraft: a biography by L. Sprague DeCamp.' Needless to say, my teacher thought I was a little odd after I turned my paper in. But that experience, like so many, took root in my subconscious. Years later, I found the book again and read it, and the story just laid itself out for me. By that time, I had written two screenplays, and 'Lovecraft' became my third. When I read the secondary story in 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,' I thought Lovecraft's story might have the makings of a graphic novel. I met Keith Giffen and sent him the screenplay. He took the script in to Vertigo, and they teamed us up with Enrique Breccia."

He still hopes "Lovecraft" will hit theaters some day, "I'm being careful and moving slowly, because I'd like to see the film version come out as well as the graphic novel did. It's taking shape, but at its own pace."

You can read more about his other projects and the genesis of the "Lovecraft" story by clicking here.

November 3: The latest from Guerrilla Productions

Greetings, Dreamers!

Welcome to the I-swear-I'm-going-to-stick-to-a-schedule-THIS-time monthly newsletter from Guerrilla Productions, where we can't believe we just did THAT, either!

Flesh of my Flesh
http://www.FleshOfMyFlesh.com/
Talk about the iron being hot! Flesh of my Flesh is Guerrilla Productions' latest feature project and it's an amazing thing. It's a feature film on a used car budget, and there's no two ways about that! In a sentence: Flesh of my Flesh chronicles the last six hours of the War of the Undead, and the humans caught in the middle.

We are in full pre-production on this and are having auditions in just a few days. We need helpers for the Production, though, so if you're at all interested, drop me a note with the subject "Let's make a zombie movie!" What do we need? Well, first of all, handy folk of all sorts, especially if you've helped on any sort of complicated project before. We need people who can paint, who can build things. We need people who can look at a couple of pictures of a Stinger launcher and say "Yeah, I can build one of those with the junk in my garage." We need people who have some experience with lights, with cameras, and with action. We need a bit of military gear, body armor, vests, weapons, etc. preferably on loan or borrow (but if you have a good line on that, let us know). And, of course, we need makeup. Sure, there are lots of crazy-wild undead monstrosities, all of which need special faces, but our ordinary characters need to look their best, too! And if you want to help in any other way, but I haven't listed something, well, drop me a note and we'll see how we CAN get you in. All helpers receive screen credit and a copy of the movie when it's done (and it will be done, I assure you, 'cause this is too cool to NOT get done -- this script keeps jumping at my face it wants to get made soooo bad!).

And, have I mentioned how incredibly sexy zombie-wear can be as Christmas gifts to that special SOMEONE?

These products are how we're hoping to raise at least a little money for Flesh of my Flesh. And the coffee mugs are ambidextrous (good news for you sinister folks)!

Innsmouth Legacy
http://www.petting-zoo.org/Movies_Innsmouth.html
We premiered Innsmouth Legacy at the Lovecraft Film Festival last month and people loved it. I have read some of the best reviews on it, including lots of people who thanked us for making one of the most subtle and pathos-filled Lovecraft stories they've ever seen. The fact is, however, the thanks go to all the people who helped put that movie together, our cast and crew (all of whom I still owe a comps disc to, but I assure you, it is looking REALLY nice and is almost done mastering!) all of whom leaped in like crazy movie-makin' superheroes and created this fantastic story out of nothing but a few sheets of paper and an unbelievable amount of human will.

Oh, and Innsmouth Legacy's on the Internet Movie Database
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427388/
so if you've seen it, then please drop by and rate it and maybe write up a comment.

The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath
http://www.petting-zoo.org/Movies_Dreamquest.html
Ah, this is a heckuva project indeed! As I mentioned before, the signed-and-numbered editions are sold out. We WILL be pressing new ones, and I'm very much looking forward to them. We have re-mastered the sound and chosen several of the trickier scenes from it and are reanimating those scenes (sorry, couldn't help myself). They look fabulous. We will probably be going with all new DVD cover art and new interior contents as well. But who knows -- it's still going to be a great package!

And finally, in my last note, I forgot to mention that two of our other short movies showed at a small film festival here in Portland called Itisness:
Vows (http://www.petting-zoo.org/Movies_Vows.html)
Revival (http://www.petting-zoo.org/Movies_Revival.html)
Both were well received and people liked 'em.

If you have a few minutes, please stop by Greensoda Productions' website:
http://www.greensodaproductions.com/
They're putting together a fascinating film and even the little glimpses we've caught of it are amazing.

Talk to you next month!

Sleep deeply, dream vividly, and remember when you wake up how rich BOTH worlds are!

Cheers,

Edward

November 3: Pulp Adventurecon is coming...

If your interest in cthulhu extends to the pulp magazines that published H.P. Lovecraft's work...

You may want to check out the Bold Venture website and read more about the Pulp Adventurecon. It's a one-day show held November 6th, just off NJ Turnpike exit 7, minutes from Trenton. Though the show was small, this year it has expanded to fifty tables of pulps and vintage paperbacks.

Illustrators Bob Walters, Tess Kissinger, and Gil Cohen will be present, along with Golden Age great Louis Glanzman, who will bring one of his unpublished Conan paintings. He was auditioning for the Lancer series in the 1960s, when Frazetta got the assignment.
