A Night of Horror with H.P. Lovecraft!

November 23: Night of Horror deadline fast approaching!

For Immediate Release:

A Night of Horror Short Film Festival - Regular Deadline Fast Approaching!

Sydney, Australia, November 24, 2006 - A Night of Horror Short Film Festival reminds horror filmmakers that there is less than a week to go before the fest's regular submission deadline, which is Thursday, November 30 (postmarked).

Of particular interest to Unfilmable readers, the festival is encouraging filmmakers to submit short films inspired by the writings of H. P. Lovecraft. According to festival co-director Dean Bertram, a long-time fan of the iconic horror author, the festival aims to be as Lovecraft "friendly" as possible. "At the very least we will be dedicating one whole screening block to Lovecraft inspired films," states Bertram.

Films submitted in the Lovecraft category, compete for the festival's "Best Lovecraft Film" award as well as several general festival awards, including: Best of Fest, Best Scream Queen, Best Special Effects, and Best Score. Thanks to the festival's sponsors, which include Kodak and People magazine, winners will share in several thousand dollars worth of cash and prizes.

A Night of Horror Short Film Festival is scheduled for March 23-25, 2007. More details are available at the festival's official website: www.anightofhorror.com

In the game, players will take on the role of Sherlock Holmes as he attempts to unravel the dark secrets of the cult of Cthulhu...

The game was developed by Frogwares for Ascaron Entertainment GmbH. For further information, please visit: www.focus-home.com.

November 16: New David Cade audio books

Following upon the success of the Lovecraft CD "The Unnameable":

Tales of Orpheus Announces Two New CD AudioBooks.

"The music is hypnotic and David Cade's voice is realistic and mesmerizing - an enchanting, fully absorbing immersion in the experience of reading, or listening to Poe! I greatly prefer this to the Basil Rathbone version."
- James Hutchison Ph.D, Author of "Poe" (2005).

"David Cade has here chosen two of Poe's most psychologically suggestive tales and his sensitive reading accentuates the suspense and fear which Poe built into them."
- Scott Peeples Ph.D., President of The Poe Studies Association, & Author of "The Afterlife of Edgar Allan Poe" (2003).

The Masque of the Red Death
(with The Black Cat, and The Bells)

The Tell-Tale Heart
(with Berenice, and The Raven)

Performed by David Cade, with original music by Roberto Barzini. Total Timing of each disc: 73 minutes.

Both CDs are now available from: http://www.davidcade.net

November 8: Darabont speaks of The Mist

Frank Darabont sat down with chud.com recently and discussed (among other things) his adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist...

"The Mist ... is going to be a really quick project; it's very low budget, very fast, not unlike what Danny Boyle did in 28 Days Later, which I found very inspiring in terms of, hell, just go out and make a movie and have fun with it," he told the site. "It'll be a pretty fast and furious narrative, really. And I'm certain the shortest film I've made to date."

According to Dread Central, a start date sometime in February is likely...

November 2: The Other Gods need your help!

Lovecraft translators needed!

As the Special Edition DVD of The Other Gods takes shape, a vital component is lacking... We'd like to include subtitles for non-English speaking persons.

If you love Lovecraft and can translate (accurately) into Spanish, French, Italian, or German, we need your help! If you'd like to donate your time and expertise, please write to us at info(AT)maddogmovies.com.

Not sure if you can take on the whole project? It's a short film, so there's only about 25 lines of text. Click here to download the script and take a crack at it!

You can also check out Mike's H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival report here!

November 2: News from Lurker Films

Bob Brinkman alerted me to the following...

NOTICE: We have just discovered a couple of mistakes in the current pressing of this DVD. First is that the film The Yellow Sign and the film The King in Yellow are not presented in their proper aspect ratio. Although the films are watchable this was not our intent and we wish to present the films in the intended aspect ratio as created by the filmmakers. Secondly, the Portuguese subtitle track is actually a duplication of the Spanish subtitles. We intend to correct these mistakes in the next pressing, and any current customer who would like the corrected disc (no packaging) can request one. Look here for further news.

November 1: New Closet Space images!

Here's a new batch of Closet Space images sent in by director Mel House (that I didn't get online in time for Halloween...)!

Mel notes that the film is currently in post-production, with digital FX work underway from Visual Oddysee. Later in the month, Oddtopsy FX will do some practical FX pickups so look for a new Closet Space trailer and poster to debut around that time...

Don't forget that the Closet Space crew will be attending the San Jose and Chicago Weekend of Horrors, so stop by and say hi!

(Thanks to Mel House)

November 1: Miskatonic music and more!

The 4-minute trailer for The Miskatonic Acid Test that screened at last months H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival has found it's way online (in a slightly different form), and can be found here!

According to writer/director Dark Lord Rob, the film currently clocks in at about 2-½ hrs! Further editing and FX work are underway for the horror-festival circuit version, but Rob promises that the Director's Cut will retain much of the current footage. A DVD release is in the planning stages for spring, but if you check out the official site, you'll see that a 3-disc CD soundtrack is currently available. The set includes 2 CDs of songs and one CD of instrumentals…

The next round of projects from Dark Lord Rob's American Entropy include Howard and Howard (a take-off on The Odd Couple featuring HPL and Robert E. Howard), Bwa Haw Haw (a horror version of Hee Haw featuring some Lovecraftian elements) and a straight-up Lovecraftian horror film called The Abomination!

Updates as they become available!

(Thanks to Dark Lord Rob and Donald C. Foley)

November 1: Two Guerrilla Productions shorts make the cut at "Blue November Film Festival"

For Immediate Release:

Portland's Guerrilla Productions announces that two GP shorts, The Testament of Tom Jacoby and Innsmouth Legacy have made the cut at the Blue November Micro Film Fest in Tulsa, OK.

The Testament of Tom Jacoby is a creepy adventure into a place of deepest darkness -- the human mind. What happens when six men are trapped beneath a mountain in a massive cave-in? What happens when one by one they start dropping, inexplicably destroyed by a monster that walks among them in the impenetrable dark?

Innsmouth Legacy is the story of a woman desperate to escape the curse that haunts her family. It is not a direct adaptation of Lovecraft's story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", but takes place one generation after that tale, borrowing elements from the story.

Blue November accepts and encourages traditional, general- interest films, but has become particularly known for its acceptance of experimental and "pure" art films as well. "Cinema is a limitless canvas," says Bret Mix, Festival Director. "There are many ways to tell any particular story, and not all of them involve traditional storytelling techniques. We aim for a good mix of traditional and non-traditional film."

Guerrilla Productions, fueled almost entirely by caffeine, has completed half a dozen short movies since the initial release of The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath and is currently in post-production on Flesh of my Flesh (www.FleshOfMyFlesh.com), a live action horror/thriller with Lovecraftian undertones.

For more information, please visit the official Guerrilla Productions site.
