Yeaworth Jr's 1958 film, then again in Chuck Russell's 1988 remake (with a 1972 sequel in between)... The Hollywood Reporter writes: "With several remakes under his belt, producer Scott Rudin is turning his attention to the 1958 B-movie "The Blob" for Paramount Pictures. The Paramount-based producer will produce the feature along with Jack Harris, who produced the original film. Judith Harris will serve as an associate producer. Starring Steve McQueen, the campy cult classic followed a mysterious creature from another planet that resembled a giant blob of jelly and went on a path of destruction as it grew bigger. The horror/sci-fi movie was remade in 1988 with Chuck Russell at the helm." Dread Central reports that the remake will be "contemporized"... (Thanks to http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/) According to Dread Central, Revolution Studios has announced theyve acquired the rights to remake John Carpenters 1980 ghost story The Fog... Cooper Layne (The Core and The Emperors Club) will write the remake, and John Carpenter (director of the original) will produce the feature along with long time partner Debra Hill. John had this to say about the new version; "I have done it once, and I don't want to do it again. I did my Fog, and now it's someone else's time. It's very flattering. It's terrific that they want to make it. We have been thinking of doing The Fog over for some time, as maybe a sequel. But now is the season of the remake." The film is set to roll in February. (Thanks to Gavin Smith) Suicidegirls.com caught up with Shawshank Redemption writer/director Frank Darabont who is overseeing the Sci-Fi Channel mini-series that will be a direct sequel to John Carpenter's The Thing. Frank explains, "It's not a remake as much as it is a miniseries sequel to the great John Carpenter movie. It got reported in the trades as a remake but I would not want to remake a movie as good as John Carpenter's. But to do a loving sequel as a miniseries really does appeal to me. Then you're not screwing up somebody's great movie." The Thing sequel will be penned by Dave Johnson. For the full interview, click here. (Thanks to http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/) A brief synopsis. Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born on August 20th, 1890. His impact as an author of supernatural horror has had a huge influence upon modern day horror, sci-fi and fantasy writers including the likes of Stephen King and Robert Bloch. It was he who created the enduring myth of that fabled tome of evil, the Necronomicon, which played catalyst in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead film trilogy. Yet sadly Lovecraft remains virtually unknown to the average reader or viewer, unlike his predecessor Edgar Allen Poe, whose stories are required reading in schools. With Lovecraft's great influence on horror fiction, it would seem inevitable that a documentary film would someday be made that would fully bring to light the life of this 20th century master of the macabre. This is NOT that film. Not since "Fahrenheit 9/11" has one movie generated more controversy! Prepare yourself for an expose' like no other - where quality investigative journalism is equaled only by the likes of FOX news! Bats will fly! Pants will be lost! Aliens will invade! Typewriters will be thrown! Wardrobes will be shredded! And makeshift dummies will be dropped from extremely unsafe heights! "LovecraCked" The truth is out there... The trailer can be found here, along with further information and images. (Thanks to Elias) October 26: Flesh of my Flesh gets some press! Edward Martin III's Flesh of my Flesh casting call (see October 22) was mentioned on the latest fangoria.com update. Check it out here. (Thanks to http://www.fangoria.com/) October 26: Forever Evil DVD news... Fangoria.com has updated information on the upcoming Forever Evil DVD. The special edition disc will be released by VCI Entertainment on November 30th, not October 26th as previously announced... Fangoria reports, "The EVIL DEAD-style supernatural shocker with touches of Lovecraft, directed by Roger Evans, will be presented in both the original release version and a seven-minutes-longer director's cut, with commentary by Evans and writer Freeman Williams, deleted scenes, a photo gallery and trailers. This one retails for $14.99." Click here for more. (Thanks to http://www.fangoria.com/) It seems that reports of Mortuary's demise may have been a little premature... According to Dread Central, an email to producer Evan Katz confirmed that there was only a slight pre-production delay. The film is still in the process of location scouting and casting with thing's picking up speed this week. Mortuary is the story of a family that wants to start anew and decides to take over a funeral home in the small town of Arkham, Massachusetts... Check the official site for more. (Thanks to http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/) October 26: The Visage review You can find a review of Kirk Henderson's The Visage over at cultcuts.net. The film recently screened at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival... Check it out here. (Thanks to http://www.cultcuts.net/) Plugging nicely into the world of Delta Green, Rough Magik is about The Night Scholars, a clandestine organization setup to monitor the ancient cult of Cthulhu. After decades of compiling an enormous database of arcane information, they have come to a single, incontrovertible conclusion: the Sleeping God is waking. Diana Armitage, with the help of her Home Office liaison, the mysterious Mr. Moon (Paul Darrow), launch an aggressive campaign against the Dreamers. This operation, designated the Rough Magik initiative, was successful but they trod on the toes of some powerful people, amidst accusations of financial impropriety and possible treason, and the Night Scholars were disbanded. Now years later, the old magic is returning, the Sleeping God is rising, and there are more Dreamers than Mr. Moon can handle as he struggles to rebuild the Night Scholars before its too late. Plus: Bob Fugger's Terrible Old Man and From Beyond and Darkest of the Hillside Thickets music videos. DVD also contains a screenwriter and producer commentary by Stephen Parsons for Rough Magik, interviews with the cast & crew of Terrible Old Man, bonus shorts, and an interview with scholar S.T. Joshi. Running time approximately 140 minutes. (Thanks to http://www.lurkerfilms.com/) The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets show I announced on October 8th has been canceled... (Thanks to Toren Atkinson) According to creature-corner.com, Tobe Hooper's new project Mortuary may have lost its funding. The source of the information was cited as being IMDb, and can be verified by clicking here. The official website has yet to post any information regarding this... More as it becomes available. (Thanks to http://www.creature-corner.com/) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 21, 2004 Portland Oregon's Guerrilla Productions announces an open casting call for their next feature film, an action/horror movie entitled Flesh of my Flesh. Flesh of my Flesh chronicles the last hours of the War of the Undead, and the people caught in the middle. Filmmaker Edward Martin III ("Innsmouth Legacy", "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath") reports "On one hand, this is our biggest most complex project yet. Flesh of my Flesh is a live-action movie with a cast and locations and sets and special effects, but on the other hand, our budget is amazingly small for such a thing. We are quite definitely taking a page from Rick Schmidt's book Feature Filmmaking at Used Car Prices. But the people we have so far, our crew, is just tremendous and skilled and we're all jazzed about the project." Open auditions for all roles will be held at The Mission Theater & Pub, at 1624 N.W. Glisan, Portland, OR 97209 on Saturday, November 6, 2004, from 9:30am to 11:30am. Actors are encouraged to visit Flesh of my Flesh's Downloads page (http://www.fleshofmyflesh.com/Downloads.html) to view a copy of the sides (script samples). Guerrilla Productions, fueled almost entirely by caffeine, released their first feature, "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath" in October 2003 (and has already sold out of its first pressing) and has completed five short movies since, including the well-received "Innsmouth Legacy". Not bad for someone less than a year old. For more information, please contact Edward Martin III Please visit the official
Flesh of my Flesh website at (Thanks to Edward Martin III) October 22: Lots of Strange Aeons news! Director/producer Eric Morgret and writer/producer K. L. Strange
Aeons: The Awakening (not to be confused with the currently in production,
Strange
Aeons: The Thing on the Doorstep). The film screened at the 11th
Annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival to favorable reviews. Here's an excerpt on the film from the HPLFF program: Jake Reslin, and average New Yorker turned real estate broker, has managed to live out a pretty normal life. However, after getting a call from an old friend that would soon change. He never thought his life or all of humanity's would soon fall victim to an unimaginable evil. A short film inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's "Call of Cthulhu." (Thanks to Ray Zablocki

The production is now entering it's 8th day... Click here for the latest! (Thanks to http://www.maelstromproductions.com/) Source: http://sknr.net/ According to bloody-disgusting.com, Stuart Gordon is still interested in doing a fourth Re-Animator film to be called, House of Re-Animator. Although a certain someone has to be re-elected before this will happen... GVK: What are you currently working on and what drew you to the project? SG: One idea I am kicking around is House of Re-animator. It is a political satire that should certain people be back in office, then I would do it. I hope I do not have to go ahead with it, but if I do, it would be about V.P. Cheney passing from a heart attack and since he basically runs everything, Dr. West is called in to bring him back. I would only go on with this in the event of re-election as otherwise it would be old news... Click here for info on Stuart's appearance at Screamfest LA, his thoughts on Beyond Re-Animator, a Re-Animator remake and more! (Thanks to http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/) October 14: Is The Thing a sequel or remake? Some time ago, fangoria reported that Frank Darabont was to be involved in a 4 hour long Sci-Fi Channel remake of The Thing. Now (after some investigating) they've discovered that the project Frank's developing isn't necessarily a remake...but a direct sequel to John Carpenter's 1982 film. Fangoria reports that, "It should be noted that, after the success of SCREAM in 1996, '82 THING producer David Foster (returning for the miniseries) mulled over the idea of doing a new take on the story with a "hip, young cast," "However, this approach is unlikely to be picked up for the 21st-century cable edition." (Thanks to http://www.fangoria.com/) October 14: Dread Central interviews Sam Raimi Over at Dread Central is a new interview with Sam "Evil Dead" Raimi. Not much is covered (in regards to Freddy vs Jason 2 or Evil Dead 4) that hasn't already been reported, but here it is for you Fake Shemps! (Thanks to http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/) October 14: New Book of the Dead comic Dead Dog Comics is set to release a sampler book called The Horror Show. An anthology, this comic will spotlight three eight-page stories that will be expanded to larger projects in 2005. According to Dread Central, the first entry will be an expansion of the Evil Dead universe, Tom Sullivan's Books of the Dead: Devilhead, which focuses on the Tom Sullivan-designed dagger and infamous bound-in-human-flesh Book of the Dead. No further details are available at this time... To visit Dead Dog Comics, click here. (Thanks to http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/) Enter the Dagon will screen at the Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween Bash on October 31st. (Thanks to Sean Branney) Writer/producer Kelly Young has been keeping us up to date thus far on the Strange Aeons shoot (and quite nicely, I might add), but he hinted that director/producer Eric Morgret would be sharing the more technical side of things with his directors notes... Eric's director notes are now online as the production enters it's sixth day, and It looks like day four proved to be a little more difficult than previous days (as you can see from both Eric and Kelly respective columns). You can check them out by clicking here (directors notes) and here (production notes). (Thanks to http://www.maelstromproductions.com/) October 13: Unknown Beyond DVD hits the street According to Amazon.com, Ivan Zuccon's Unknown Beyond has finally been released on DVD from LEO Films. The featureless DVD sells for around $15... (Thanks to http://www.amazon.com/) According to IGN.com, Sam Raimi has expressed interest in starting Evil Dead 4 as soon as he finishes Spiderman 3. Especially, now that he has removed Ash from consideration for the upcoming Freddy vs. Jason sequel. Here is some of what he had to say; "I would actually love to and one day I hope to. I hope sooner rather than later. I really had a lot of fun with them, and I think the audience may now want to see one. Maybe when I'm done with the Spider-Man movie I can get to work on one" He went on to say; "Well, I actually really like those, the Freddy movies, and Jason is a classic American horror figure now. I have a lot of respect for those series, and maybe one day they will meet up, but right now what I'd like to do is, well I'd first rather make another Evil Dead picture, and then maybe when we're done with it, if there's an interesting story that really seems like it's not just a device to make money, which I'm not saying it was. I know that they wanted to do something really cool, but I wanted to keep the option open for myself to make another Evil Dead movie without the limitations of what that story may have done. That's really, I think, what it is." Click here for more! (Thanks to http://www.creature-corner.com/) After months of rumour and speculation, all of those (now) pointless articles and interviews being done about Freddy vs. Jason 2, Sam Raimi has finally said "That won't happen"... "I have a great deal or respect for Sean Cunningham. I think he's a brilliant filmmaker," he told Latino Review "I just didn't think it was a winning great situation for anybody." He went on to say, "I wanted to give the fans what they want with that. It's hard to know what the fans want with that, if that was the proper treatment. I just don't know. I don't think so. As fun as that sounded, I think they're in two different worlds, the Evil Dead and Jason/Freddy. Maybe another time, that would be a better combination." He does express interest in revisiting the character himself one day... Click here for more. (Thanks to http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/) The teaser trailer for the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society's upcoming adaptation of The Call of Cthulhu is now online. This is the same trailer that played to rave reviews at last weekends Lovecraft Film Festival. As you'll see, the footage is amazing and will raise the bar for all Lovecraft adaptations that follow it. The film will be completed some time in the spring of 2005, and will play in it's entirety at next years festival. Check it out here! Some recent Lovecraft related films that I have been made aware of are; The Caul of Brocthulhu, Cthulhu, Stern Fathers Neath the Mould, The Lovecraft Syndrome and Flesh of my Flesh. The Caul of Brocthulhu is an upcoming project to be directed by Mad Martian that will be a starring vehicle for Broccoli Man. Click here for more. Cthulhu is the story of a gay history professor drawn back to his hometown by his mother's death, where he discovers his father's ministry may have ties to old massacres and monsters. The film will be produced by Arkham NW Productions and directed by Daniel Gildark. Stern Fathers 'Neath the Mould is a documentary currently in production from Spinning Grave Productions and director Thomas J Gleason (Enter the Dagon). It is based on the book by Richard Squires, and concerns Lovecraft's family on his Father's side and the author/historian (Richard Squires) who's quest has been to learn more about them. The title of the documentary comes from Squires book title which in turn came from an HPL poem. Squires has discovered a family of people more interesting and noble then Lovecraft ever led people to believe through his correspondence. Though they do have their fair share of tragedy and madness. The Lovecraft Syndrome
and Flesh of my Flesh have been mentioned previously in these
news pages. The forthcoming terrors
page now contains over 4 dozen films in various stages of production.
As noted, many of these films may never be realized, but they have been
announced... Open Circle Theater presents H.P. Lovecraft Theater of Horrors, running Oct. 8 thru Nov. 13.
