14: The Stone House wraps ~
updated ~

Alex Turner's new film, and Dead Birds
follow-up, The
Stone House completed principal photography
on September 5th, 2007.
More
news soon...
Update: Screenwriter
Simon Barrett has informed Unfilmable.com
(at my request) that The Stone House
is not indebted to the works of H.P. Lovecraft
like Dead Birds was. So while I'm excited
about seeing the new film, I will probably
discontinue covering it's progress...

September 12: The Case of Howard Phillips
Lovecraft on DVD!

Patrick Mario Bernard
and Pierre Trividic's 1998 documentary The
Case of Howard Phillips Lovecraft is coming
to DVD courtesy of Morning
Star Entertainment! Originally broadcast
on French television, the 45 minute biographical
documentary is scheduled for a October 23rd
release. The DVD contains a "making of"
featurette and retails for $34.98...
About
the film: A highly original film, The Case
of Howard Phillips Lovecraft stands out among
the prestigious entries in the Century of
Writers Series from Arte, partly because of
the films subjectHoward Phillips
Lovecraft. H.P. Lovecraft has thrilled countless
readers by creating his own imaginative worlds
and mythologies in his books, becoming a legend
in the process.
Disgusted
by life and uninterested in earthly subjects,
Lovecraft intentionally avoided reality when
writing, veering into the unknown and inspiring
the fear that lurks in nightmares. But, how
do you portray the indefinable mythology that
gave birth to Dragon, or the mysterious Cthulhu,
or the uniquely strange Necronomicon? Directors
Patrick Mario Bernard and Pierre Trividic
asked themselves this question before responding
with this unorthodox documentary that re-creates
the atmosphere of claustrophobia, anxiety,
and madness of Lovecrafts life and work...

6: 9 Lives of Mara added

Balaji K. Kumar's feature,
9
Lives of Mara, has been added to the
HPLFF schedule...
About the film: Twelve-year-old Robin is
in turmoil following the death of his mother.
As he struggles with his grief and new role,
their home is invaded by an amorous intruder.
This darkly sexual, mysterious woman intent
on becoming the children's stepmother. After
reading the ancient tome on the history of
witchcraft, The Malleus Maleficarium, Robin
begins to notice Maria's strange habits are
in terrifying step with those of a witch.
His fear for himself and his family is overwhelming
as he becomes dangerously obsessed with ridding
his home of the evil threatening it. But there
is more to his wise-cracking best friend Larry
and to Maria than meets the eye. 9 Lives of
Mara embraces this journey into insanity,
while answering the call for more literate,
supernatural horror. Eschewing the predictable,
the film plunges inside the human psyche to
uncover how dangerously close it teeters to
near absolute oblivion...
